I started getting a lot of straps before I got into collecting watches when all I had was an Apple Watch. Even now though, I still get multiple straps for some of my watches. You get so much more mileage out of each watch when you can just replace a strap and completely change the entire look and feel of it.

Early in the process yes, or when I see a good deal and think, maybe this time I will like natos (the answer is always no). I intend on bringing a bunch to the next Windup and giving away.
Recently getting into this same hobby, my Movado was the first, ditched the original leather strap it came on and put it on a silicone strap... Feels a lot less dressy and a bit more sporty now. My eco drive was next, had it on a bracelet for like 14/15 years... Put that on a silicone strap too and I feel like I just bought it days ago.
I've been looking for more, have a 45 year old seiko 5 I wanna put on a green alligator as my summer dress piece.

Wow! That Movado looks so good on the blue strap! Excellent choice!
You are in good company friend.

I actually really like NATOs. Windup? Is that like a convention or meetup or something like that?

Glad to see I’m not the odd man out lol

Worn and Wound hosts a number of shows throughout the year.
I'm a watch enthusiast, microbrand collectir, and apparently a strap hoarder....respectively! 😜😅🤘🏻🤙🏻
For much of my time buying watches, I definitely went a little wild with the straps. I didn't like metal bracelets for one thing (this has changed), so many of my new purchases needed an immediate strap or two. I'm glad I built up that reserve of variety, but anymore I tend to find one strap that complements a given watch and just kind of keep it on. Not nearly as much swapping out as I once did.
Doing more custom straps now.

Seems like a pretty common thing lol
I have one Barton and it is by far the nicest leather strap I own

Most of my watches I keep one strap on but my Apple Watch and Timex Wekender.. I don’t think I’ve worn the same strap 2 days in a row 😅

Digging the contrast between the orange dial and dark blue strap
I think I have around 40 spares, it's a cheap way to change a look and give the effect of a new watch.

It definitely changes the look a lot. Always feels like a different watch when I put on a different strap.
Not really. I tend to be a bracelet guy. I have quite a few NATOs but don't really swap them out. I do like the Hirsch liberty I have on my KFM, and a mesh strap on the way, I might try that on a few watches.
NATO's, Zulu's, Bracelets, Silicone, Rubber. Chosen rightly can bring new life to an old watch.

My nephew owns a business that makes watch straps, wallets etc.

To each their own. I like bracelets and a few of my watches have some nice ones but I always feel that they a bit much for most outfits I wear.
You so right I tend to hang on to watches more longer than before and what a great difference when you change the straps. I really like the modern straps easy to change than the others.
