Since its introduction in 1963, the Daytona has been Rolex's flagship chronograph watch. This first chapter will discuss the Rolex Daytona Retrospective.
Hi Friends!
Here is Part 1 of a three-part series that I wrote covering the Rolex Daytona chronograph. This portion discusses the vintage four-digit Daytona references made from 1963 until 1988.
I hope you find this useful.
As always, I'd love to hear your feedback!

Ooh good post! Great intro to the Daytona, at least for me who just knew that it's a cool watch!
Thanks @Bzilla !
Great article - I've bookmarked it and am looking forward to the next chapters. I would have liked to see a photo of the vintage ad referring to it as the "Le Mans".

Thank you @tempus - the next chapters should be published soon. I'll tag you here when they are.
Unfortunately, I can't control the photos used in the article. But here's a picture for you :)

Can you image a Daytona for $210 :-)

Well, if you do inflation adjustment your $210 in 1963 are $2,045 today.
Still below todays prices,but...
Really fun and informative read! I have always liked the look of the Daytona, but I never realized how significant it was as the flagship chronograph for Rolex. I actually bought an Invicta clomage, but it broke like several other Invicta watches I have purchased. My wife won't even let me look at Invicta any more. 🤣
Maybe someday when my novel gets published and becomes a best seller I will be able to get an actual Daytona.

Thank you @DigitalDivider! Here’s to your future Daytona 🍻
I've been to the Daytona 500 every year since 1979 when I was 13. Sadly no Rolex Daytona in the collection. It will happen, until then I'm on a Seitona budget.
Wonderful article, I look forward to the rest
This was my uncles jacket and now mine... running out of space

Wow! That is an incredible jacket, and a fascinating piece of your family’s history - the true definition of a family heirloom. I’ve never been to the Daytona 500 but would love to one day.
Thanks, great history as always, I look forward to your articles. As a child, I was fascinated by the Ford/Ferrari wars of the late ‘60’s. Daytonas bring me back, nice memories.
Great article! Really enjoyed it - great writing as always.
The only thing you could have done to make it even better would have been to show how Rolex copied the 1957 Omega Speedmaster to develop their own "iconic" design for the 1963 Daytona...sorry I mean Speedmaster homage.
Awesome article. Thanks for going in to details.

Yes, Omega certainly set the design blueprint for mid-century racing chronographs! the speedy was the first to feature the tachymeter on the bezel, which was a brilliant move

Thanks for reading @TimeToRide !
Thank you for posting. Love the Zenith 4030s and hand wound Daytonas and the current evolved design. This year should be interesting to see what the Crown has in store.
