Breaking promises

I bought the Grand Seiko SBGX341 almost 2 years ago in Tokyo at the Wako flagship store in Tokyo.

It was my first Grand Seiko and I swore I would never get rid of it. I mean how could I? It is an awesome watch and I bought it in the birth place of Seiko. I bought it and I wore it and then I started wearing it less, and then I just didn't really wear it at all. Then about a month or so ago I put it on to wear it for the day and I took it off about 5 minutes later, something just didn't feel right. It hit me like a ton of bricks, I just didn't like the watch anymore. So after a month of thinking about it I sold it. It was bringing me too much anxiety to just hold onto a watch I was supposed to love forever that I didn't anymore. It was unfair to just let it sit there, so I let it move on so it could be enjoyed by someone else who would actually wear it.

Love is a fickle thing, but at the end of the day the heart wants what the heart wants, and my heart didn't want the SBGX341 anymore. Oh well, now I suppose I have to find a new Grand Seiko to replace it with and I probably need to travel back to Tokyo to get it. Dang!

Has anyone else broken a promise to watch that you swore would forever be in your collection?

That sucks. It reminds me of the popular Casio Oceanus

Yes, it also happened to me with my Speedy Reduced, as I mentioned in another post.

I had a Tag Heuer Link that I thought would always remain in my collection. I loved it when I first got it and I wore it all the time. As the years went by, I slowly found that I didn’t like Tags anymore. There wasn’t anything wrong with the watch. It just didn’t feel like it was “me” any longer. After having parted ways for a while now, I don’t miss it at all.

I recently stumbled upon the SBGW253.

1st world problem here 😂

Nice watch

I would first try to figure out why that happened, so that you can avoid it going forward. Do you have any idea why you feel that way?

And no, this hasn´t happened to me, aside from minor missteps while modding. I would be happy to wear any watch in my collection.

I feel the same way. I need to let time pass some more, but as of now I do not regret getting rid of it.

I think the watch had too many sharp angles. I wore it a lot of first, but it quickly gained a lot of dings and scratches, especially around the bezel. This kept me from wearing the watch to work, which just ended up meaning that I did not wear it that much.

Yeah I'm the same with my Tudor Pelagos 39mm. I haven't sold or traded it yet. I'm concerned with sellers remorse with the fact that it's difficult to get.

I would think going into the future it will become easier to get used if you do end up getting rid of it.

I bought…and a few months later, sold…that same GS. It’s a VERY cool piece, but I found that the novelty wore off quickly…it happens. Our tastes evolve and change no matter how excited we get and no matter how sound our thinking was at the time…though, honestly, how sound can we really say our thinking ever was if it resulted in spending thousands on a new watch?

Good point. There really is nothing sound or reasonable about this hobby. Also, I see the whole novelty stand point for the watch. Grand Seiko has made a few different "magnetic resistant" watches over the wears and I think I like the older models better. Of course I didn't start researching them until after I bought the SBGX341. That might have played a part in me losing interest.

I Feel like your going to realise it was a bad move to sell it I'm a few years, it was a boutique exclusive model and would be quite difficult to find another...

I Beleive its the only GS in the sports collection with no date, and the only non diver with lume?

I've actually never sold any of my watches but I do occasionally think about doing it

It is a more common watch in Japan. They are being sold at any big box store that sells the lower end Grand Seikos like Bic Camera. That is where I first saw and tried one on.

At this point I've sold 4 watches out of my collection. To me it just doesn't make sense to hold onto something that I do not desire to wear anymore.

They're is a limited amount made and that wasn't the case when I bought mine in ginza

Funny—that played a part for me, too. I saw an earlier iteration of the 341 GS after I bought it and I liked the earlier model much more—less blingy and more legible dial,a slightly more compact case, and had the old-school Seiko/Grand Seiko double-branding on the dial which I prefer. Sold the 341 and kept my eye out for a used SBGX093, which I eventually found.

Gotcha.
