About Vintage

Hello Watch Friends

What do you all think about this timepiece from About Vintage. I think it’s got a striking look of a watch that would set you back £3000+ but this one is at an amazing price of £300, it’s a head turner and conversion starter for sure, I’ve picked it on the nato strap and also like the nylon one too, FREE engraving on the case back too. There are many version to chose from and also other models.

Find them here - https://aboutvintage.com/

LET ME KNOW IF YOU’VE BOUGHT ONE AND WILL BE BUYING ONE.

Brief introduction.

HOW IT STARTED

OUR STORY

Two childhood friends, a white beach in Mexico, a common passion for watches and an entrepreneur’s itch to create… this is the recipe of a humble Danish watch brand on a global path.

Love the color pattern of the dial, but would probably save for the Hamilton Intramatic chrono as opposed to this piece.

·

Looks good but so much competition for my limited dollars

What would you pick otherwise? Intriguing 🧐

I have a Dan Henry 1964 panda tricompax with multiple straps for about $350, and it’s for me more wearable at 38mm. Vario also makes some great looking watches too.

That’s very HAMILTON WATCH AMERICAN CLASSIC INTRA MATIC AUTO CHRONO but a very smart looking watch all the same 👍🏼

Yeah they have period specific dial designs. Sorry if I sound like I’m being sponsored by them. I assure you, no one pays me to say anything. In fact, people would pay me to shut up 😂

·

I’ve got a gmt from About Vintage and it’s great. If I was looking for a bi-compax I’d definitely consider this one. Mine looks great and feels good on.

Haha that’s brilliant, we all love enthusiasm on here so no need to apologise 👍🏼 I do like them and a good price compared to the Hamilton at £2140!

Only heard about them recently, so I’ll be definitely checking them out, the dail styles are very nice 👌 thank you for your comments

·

Very nice, very much my style. I do however have some reservations regarding the amount of white space on the dial.

·

I checked out their page... some nice looking watches. Looks like a micro-brand I was unaware of. I like that the 1960 racing watch is 40 mm. To me it looks nicer than the Dan Henry version.

Paid advertorials on WC? This reads like one…

Honestly - none of these appeal greatly, because they overhype the design side when they are very much homages of classic models. I have seen many in the wild, online on eBay, and even in discount places like T K Maxx in the UK, so they are quite common. They (as a brand) also post on here, but they never respond to anything, constructive or otherwise, so that’s of note.

·

Me? Nope, I just like the watch and asking if anyone’s had one 👍🏼 only joined a week ago 😳👍🏼

No offense intended, but this is just another quartz chronograph. The design is pretty standard and can be had on Aliexpress for around US$100. It looks like its an inexpensive Miyota quartz movement, not even a mecaquartz movement.

Loads of brands with similar designs. I did a post about how many mecaquartz chronographs are out there now. If you added quartz chronographs, it would be an even longer list.

Furlan Marri has now started making mechanical chronographs in addition to their mecaquartz line. Pretty basic chronograph movements but a high degree of finishing and borrowed designs from Patek.

Personally, if I were going to purchase a quartz-based chronograph, I would want it to be a mecaquartz running the Seiko VK63 (no date) or VK64 (with date).

Here are some in the $200-400 range that are great looking and very well made mecaquartz chronographs...

If you want to step it up a little to just under US$500...you can pick up one of these...

Or if you want to get closer to the $100 price point...you could pick up one of these...

Image

Sorry, there is no way the watch looks like a £3000+ chronograph...that is Daniel Wellington type of sales hype...next you will be telling us you can do it so inexpensive because you cut out the middle man.

£300 is not an amazing price...as that is around US$400...

For US$326, right now you can pick up this beauty from Nezumi...much better watch and less expensive...

Sorry just my opinion, we all have our own, and with a mass of independents out there, this brand caught my eye over the last few days, I do like the alternatives you added though, buying watches either cheap or expensive is a mind field, I wasn’t trying to hype it, just wondered what people thought of them as they are new to me and I really liked them 👍🏼

You asked for opinion, and you are getting it, so please don’t go on the defensive. They are not unique and other brands pull off what they do much better for better value. It’s ok, you can like what you like, it’s your wrist at the end of the day, but if you don’t want to listen to opinions that do not match your own, don’t ask… Your post reads like an advertorial because you just posted their website text wholesale after a very open-ended question with little background, which effectively screams marketing or spam. You may as well be a bot for all we know. About Vintage post every now and then, and they do not engage, so this is very much in their style.

@ChronoGuy pretty much owns most of the watches in the world (joking aside, his collection is enormous), I would take heed of his suggestions because, and I repeat, he has experience with most of the watches in the world. It is scary, and very helpful. There are some excellent options in his post, take them or leave them 😉

Thank you for the words of advice, I certainly aren’t a BOT, I used some of the website info from their site, I’ll get used to this and post better in future, thank you and sorry, ps I’ll check out @chronoguy 👍🏼

Thanks Chris! Very kind words...not all the watches in the world...but working on it 😉

Reminds me of that line in the 10cc song "Worst Band in The World"...

It goes...

"Up yours, up mine, but up everybody's...that takes time...but we're working on it" 😂

It reminds me of a Sekonda/Strela from back in the day. It was reissued as a lookalike quartz about 15 or so years ago, but it was only £99 RRP, and now if you can find one, it's half of that. The newer models are also dirt cheap at £39 at the moment, but they have three subdials rather than 2.

Love the Strelas - I have some with the mechanical Poljot movements...

I've never liked the name of the brand. It feels clumsy, and it's not really grammatical.

One of those names where I'd look at the dial every 15m and think... ugh.
