It's been almost a year since I got the call from my AD saying my Explorer has arrived. I was very hyped, since it was my first Rolex. I asked about the price (I put my name on the list 4 months prior when it was 6050 EUR) and of course, I got the answer I expected - the new price is 6750 EUR. I was a little bit bummed about that, but, what can a man do ๐ I've been wearing it most of the time for the past year and it is now officially my favorite watch in my collection, which is pretty weird given the fact that a couple of years ago when I was still a kid I thought that the Explorer is the most boring and ugly Rolex ๐ But luckily, my taste has changed and I now appreciate the clean look and the fact that the watch is very understated. I have friends who own Submariners and GMTs and they get asked about their watches all of the time... But not me! ๐ No one even notices it's a Rolex. One thing I also like is that I think the Explorer is the real "Rolex lover" watch... Or maybe I'm subjective. But I think if you stop a random person on a street and compliment their Sub/GMT, most of the time you would get a weird look of a person who just follows the trends and buys the watch because it's popular. I don't think that's the case with the Explorer though. I love the fact that they returned to the original 36mm size, which makes it wear PERFECT on my 16.5cm wrist. I love the fact the bracelet tapers to 14mm, it makes it so much more comfortable. I usually try on different straps on my watches, but this bracelet was never taken of, which to me says a lot about the quality. What can I say, I just love the watch the way it is, and if I had to choose one watch to wear for the rest of my life, it would most definitely be this one!
But I do want to ask - do you have any cool strap recommendation for this watch? Feel free to share your photos!

No strap recommendations - but thatโs a lovely watchย
Awesome watch!
It's a strap monster. I would say a brown horween leather strap.

It looks very good on your wrist, very proportional as you say. Still waiting on the call myself ๐ .ย
amazing watch!ย
i do think its looks better on the bracelet but that is just me hahahย
try it on a nato strapย

it's a strap monster, until it's not. this thing chews through leather like no other, please be warned, ha.ย
I would strongly advise curved spring bars for this explorer
Great watch I'd try a black rubber strapย
Iโm also on the list. My favorite watch. That being said, iโm still not sure i will buy when/if I get the call.ย

Maybe a retro bond ala Sean Connery in Dr No
Congrats. Mine is just a couple weeks older than yours! As for straps, I heard that Everest was working on a fitted rubber strap for this reference and it might be available later on this year. Iโd be interested in picking up a green one for mine, although to be honest I donโt know if Iโd ever really keep it off the braceletโฆ
Great watch! What's the lume like on it?

To be honest, the lume may be the weakest point of the watch. It has a nice blue color but it's very weak. Every one of my Seikos has a lot better lume than this one ๐
Nice! ย Planning a trip to an AD soon to get My name on the list.ย
Beautiful watch! ย Congrats. ย #rolexย

Ouch :) Thanks for letting me know. Like you - it's one of the few Rolexes I'd consider. I must say my Tudor Pelagos FXD has set my lume expectations pretty high.

Oh? I have a different experience. I think the lume is fine! Not any better or worse than Tudor or Seiko. Still honeymooning here though so I might not be as critical as you! ๐

Exactly! For me the Explorer 1 and OP are the only Rolex watches I really like. I don't cyclops, and I like symmetric dials.
Oh and of course a no-date sub, but I don't like any of the 6 digit cases.
Bark & Jack, an Explorer fan in his own right, just dropped a 19mm strap that I enjoy.
I am on the waiting list for one. Good to hear that no one notices it, I was worried about wearing it and endlessly answering is it a rolex and then being judge.
Can't agree more. I have joined the EXP 1 club last week as well. Mine is a second handed one from 2021. What is the accuracy of yours? Mine is running +3 sec /day, thinking whether should bring it to Rolex service center to check it
Congratulations on a great watch and I agree with every word.ย
Tried a few straps and found that I liked it on a perlon the most. But for the Explorer I prefer the bracelet.ย

Mine runs -2 sec/day.

Picked up my 124270 two days ago. Two things i found disappointing. The Cromalite(sp?) lume as you say is very weak on mine as well, especially as I read somewhere that it is brilliant!.Perhaps there's a secret method to increasing the strength but you shouldn't need to,(bah humbug!).The other gripe is a bit nitpicky I suppose but since the indices and hands have been made of 18k white gold, why scrimp on the coronet (printed) on the dial?. Even my humble Date (15200) has the applied gold one!.
