What’s the Ultimate DateJust or if you can’t get one (The Cartier Alternative)?

Key things take make the ultimate datejust: Roman Numerals, date, automatic and no lume :) Rolex Datejust 41 (2022) White Dial Roman Numerals: classic, but because of the white gold and the polished jubilee bracelet it scratches easily. With the classic Rolex look it’s also too eye catching at times. Cartier Tank Must XL: with this classic - iconic look it is on the same level as the Rolex date just. People just recognize it. In terms of wearable I think the Rolex is more versatile. Cartier Santos Large: classic date and automatic as with the other two models. In terms of versatility and wearability this wins. With the quick adjustments and a large volume of leather straps and options this turns from a sport watch to a gents watch quickly.

The tritium on my 16030 Buckley Dial is practically dead. Does it qualify?

Love it

I know you probably didn't mean it this way but, if you're asking what the ultimate datejust is and only 1 of the 3 options listed is a datejust... what I'm saying is that it's a bit confusing as to what you're actually asking.

Some have been quoted online by saying the Cartier line is a good alternative

I know, hence the sadness. 😭

Yeah lots of love for the two tone datejust, such a classic in a similar manner to how the gold daydate is so iconic. For me I like smaller sizes for all of these models. I also really like the look of vintage/neo-vintage datejusts. There are some interesting references out there, like that perfect blue of the blue dialed ones, interesting bamboo bezels, etc.

You said ultimate and I prefer these numbers to Romans.

I'm partial to this one...

While the three center links are polished, a Rolex Jubilee bracelet actually is far less prone to scratches than the Rolex Oyster bracelet. It’s single polished center link is what you’d call a scratch magnet.

One of two watches I inherited from my Dad! 🤩

·

I'm in the minority -- I'd pick the tank.

@kernit with so many datejusts, sometimes other brands can do the job.
