Only Two Authentic Seagull 1963 Editions

There are many counterfeit and third-party modified versions of the Seagull 1963 circulating in the market. Many watch collectors have unknowingly purchased fakes or altered pieces. I hope everyone can buy an authentic one. Seagull Watches officially has released two editions of the 1963 chronograph - the Original and the Times versions. I recommend purchasing directly from the official channels to ensure authenticity. 😎

There's also the 1962 Plan B

other options are all fake or modified by third parties:)

Couldn't care less about Chinese 'authenticity'. I picked up a 1963 during 11/11 sale for $80. I wouldn't pay more than that for one so no 'authentic' Chinese manufacturer lost a sale. Watch probably won't last 2 years anyway.

I thought red star made them first. Unless that is part of seagull, I could well be wrong.

I think it depend on what you call a fake. Some might say if it’s not a vintage from 1963, then it’s a fake. 😃 My threshold is whether it has an ST1901 movement in it. If it has an open caseback, then you can see the ST1901. I have seen some with the same dial front and a closed back that have a quartz movement and can be purchased for as low as $25.

Whats the difference between 21 zuan and 22 zuan?

Jody did a nice video on identifying a real Seagull 1963.

I saw that video, it's great!

I think this will be an ongoing discussion as even Sea-Gull makes different versions 😜

An example are the hands on the sub dials. Sometimes one of the hands have a counterbalance and on other photos they have hands without counterbalance.

I think this may be the one watch where people don't get hung up on authenticity. The Seagull / Sea-Gull 1963 "look" is what people like. So the Aliexpress ones could be considered a homage to the original, but even the 'Homage Haters' will probably turn a blind eye. It is an odd one and I get your point about authenticity 👍

I wish I could get my 1963 back… my partner confiscated it for her personal use 🤷‍♂️

This is a discussion about whether to pursue authentic watches for one's collection or to collect fakes just because they are inexpensive. Even if the design of a fake looks quite nice, it is still a counterfeit in the end. So for those who collect fake watches, what meaning is there in that collection?

·

I can't be the only person who can see the irony in a Chinese watch having fakes made of it.

·

The “real” 1963 is made by Red Star and sold by it as well as by Sea-Gull. The latter charges way more for the exact same watch. I am sure other manufacturers that sell homages to the Red Star/Sea-Gull use the same mechanism. I would not worry one way or another.

I think your point of view is relatively objective.👍

Does Seagull sell the ST1901 movement to these counterfeit operations?
