Feeding the Green Monster.

After some back and forth and heavy searching, I finally was able to get my hands on this piece. The only other green watch I own is the Seiko SARB017 aka The Alpinist, which is a killer watch and oddly versatile. But I could never claim it a great watch to wear to a business meeting or a night on the town. Cue the GS SBGH271; I found the answer to my dilemma. As beautiful as this watch is and a great celebratory piece, I feel I have taken a dangerous step into a level of luxury I cannot come back from. This watch commemorates my 10 years with my wife and a subtle reminder to keep looking forward. But the high that comes with this Green Monster is hard to ignore. I guess I say all this to pose the question: How do you get off that rush that comes with a commemorative luxury purchase? How do you reduce the impulse to go the next step and purchase the next luxury phase in "haute" horology??

Thank you for engaging.

Haha. Sounds like you speak from experience. I have been eyeing the JLC Reverso Duoface Calendar. I figure that is the only way forward, otherwise I'm just wasting "time." Haha.

First, congrats!  I have tried the 271 on a couple times and it looks great. I do not have a GS Hi-Beat and this one scratches a lot of itches.

As far as worrying about the next, we all have it, but try to enjoy the ones you have and ensure you are not buying simply because you have researched things to death and you must have it. I swear I will not do that again.  :-)

It appears to be easier said than done so far. Haha.

I can’t answer your question, but I can tell you that you’ve come to the wrong place. If any of us knew, we’d probably have stopped by now.

·

That’s such a great story, not only because of the beautiful watch, but the question that I think we all can relate to. There seems to be something about “ the hunt” that is a visceral appeal in my opinion. And it’s so easy to be caught up in it and lead us to not enjoying what we have. as the song goes: “The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game”

·

Congrats, bud, on an awesome and really cool piece! 😎🥳 Hope to see it again in WRUW every Fridays, where we celebrate our #greendial watches. We call it #greenfridays #verdeviernes. Cheers! 🍻

·

Congrats buddy, i got the cousin to your watch, SBGA415, as 5 year anniversary present with my wife... and no, the rush to get something “greater” or newer wont ever rub off. in my own experience, I always last about 6 months before another hunt begins 😂

·

Congrats on the anniversary and your new GS! I guess you should enjoy the honeymoon with it first before worrying about buying new expensive watches 😂

Death or brain trauma is pretty much the only way to reduce the impulse to go the next step and purchase the next luxury piece.  The only good thing about this luxury watch disease you have is that you will never again be mistaken as a bum with a crap watch.

I share your disease

Don’t forget you still need to join team Black Bay Bronze too!

Unfortunately, there is no cure for your illness.

That said, buying lots of straps I’ve found can help lengthen time between major purchases. It gives you a fun middle ground of “it feels new”

Basically the methadone for watch addicts.

Hahaha!! My practice is next to a methadone clinic…im not proud of it and no lie in a matter of a 2 years they have grown exponentially!! not great but business wise is awesome curing people of addiction by replacing it with another addiction endless cycle…

That is a great saying. It Unfortunately applies perfectly to this situation. Haha

Much easier said than done. Back when I started collecting, I got into the habit of buying multiple pieces and going through the honeymoon phase with them all. The only difference now, is prices are about 10x what they used to be, but so are the watches.

I have a Tudor BB 38 in Blue so far. That Bronze is a stunner.

Cheers to metaphorical methadone. I appreciate that idea. Definitely going to give it a try. Although I feel straps might be another rabbit hole altogether. Haha

True, I’m trying so hard to control my buying impulses 🤣 (PS I fell in love with that new Oris Aquis New York Harbour Edition…)

I think that green mother of pearl is really spectacular in the photos. I haven’t seen one myself in real life but I’m afraid if I really see one I wil l actually buy it…

·

wow, that looks absolutely different than the picture shown on GS website :D

Yeah the lighting is the culprit. There are moments when it looks black, gray or green depending on the angle.
