I am happy to share that my first watch, which made me start collecting or made me get into watches, is this HMT Sangam. HMT,a Public Sector Undertaking by Government of India, is a pioneer in Watch manufacturing in India since 1961. HMT set up a watch manufacturing Unit at Bangalore in collaboration with M/s Citizen Watch Co., Japan in 1961. As the first manufacturer of Wrist watches in India ๐ฎ๐ณ. Talking about the watch, it is a quartz movement stainless steel watch with a 38mm case diameter and an analogue day and date function. This watch came across generationally from the 1970s to the 1980s, and till now it has been a fashion watch that goes with every outfit you wear. What do you guys think?

I have never seen a "graph paper" design dial before. Very interesting.

This is proof that not all 1970's designs age badly. Like @Aurelian I immediately thought of graph paper looking at the dial.
I notice the dial says India on it. Is this a sign of an original dial that tends to get wiped away with all the refurbished models and their unoriginal or repainted dials? If I ever get an HMT, I'd want it to say India on the dial.

Yes, you are absolutely right. There are many clones like these selling for double the rate of the retaliating price, and it was really hard to get hands on one of these. HMT does make a limited number of watches, and they get sold really quickly, like a snap, and it took me three attempts to bag this one. ย
Welcome!
Always nice to see HMT getting some love
unfortunately the Indian market is so closed that the only way they sell to the outside world is Ebay or through an expensive broker.
Welcome brother, I have a similar one without sangam branding.
Love HMT. I've never seen this model.
Is the watch still available ? I am not able to find on their website

I bought it six months ago, and I do see people saying that they haven't even listed the product on their website...
Got a grey model, just not sure why they decided not to name sangam on few of the models
