Which watch should I buy to be my GADA?

I’m having a very hard time deciding between the Christopher Ward Sealander 36mm and the Traska Summiteer 36mm.

Both have their pros and cons, but the main ones are the dial size (CWard) and the finishing (Traska). Many people have told me that the CW has a much bigger dial than a normal 36mm watch which worries me a bit. I have less cons for the Traska because I’ve owned a couple and know how they feel on wrist. The Cward has a lot of unknown like the customer service, the bracelet sizing issue, the excessive long clasp, etc.

I’d love to hear your experiences with these pieces. I would also love to see some pictures comparing it to other watches of similar size.

Let me know!

Both fantastic watches. I wouldn’t worry about dial size being too big on a 36mm, and I’ve read great things about CW customer service. Hopefully someone will chime in with real world wearing experience (of which, I have none).

Thanks man!

I had to send a CW back for a warranty repair and the customer service was great. I’d pick the CW just for the date, but this is up to personal preference.

·

I wouldn’t sleep on the Traska. I had a 36mm Summiteer and it still stands as the most comfortable watch/bracelet combination I’ve worn.

That’s what makes me want the Traska honestly. The bracelet, the coating, the articulation and the clasp make the Traska a real winner for me. But I can’t deny the finishing and details on the Cward. It’s honestly a really difficult decision.

I voted for the Sealander while wearing my Sealander. Can’t say enough good things about it.

Would you mind sending me some pictures please?

🤷🏻‍♂️

I would say go to an AD, try on both, and then make a decision, but you can’t with these two.

At the end of the day, this comes down to whether you like crown guards or CW’s trident counterbalance on the seconds hand.

I love both of those things, the issue I have with the watch is the bracelet. Also, I’m located in Canada so i can’t go visit CW in person (but I really wish I could lol)

·

Love my sealander. I'd go with that

·

Its a no brainer...pick the pretty one.

Which watch has the bracelet issue? Is it the Traska?

No Cward, double screws, male endlink, big clasp. The head of the watch is perfect tho.

Double screws are the worst, that’s Grand Seiko.

It’s like someone was trying to solve the problem of “how can we make pin and collar more annoying.”

·

Beware horrible CW customer service.

It’s a beautiful watch but damn does it look big for a 36mm compared to the Explorer. I really do like it and I have some serious thinking to do. Thanks alot for the detailed post and pictures!

No worries. Keep in mind the Explorer is a hair under 36mm…Rolex likes to round up diameter sizes!

So it doesn’t wear much larger than the Explorer? I’m sure the smaller lug to lug helps!

·

Having to pick between Zoolander and a Trashcan, I would always choose Zoolander.

·

CW’s customer service is top-notch and, having held a couple of their newer pieces, it’s fair to say that the finishing and outward quality are at the level of Rolex/IWC/Omega.

·

I have the Summiteer. Absolutely love wearing it. I don’t have a single complaint. I have been eyeing some C Ward watches though

·

They do have a white dial 😏

·

CW, fit and finish, customer service, feel, no sizing issues nothing would prevent me from buying another, if I needed another. 😀

Strictly by measurements the CW and the Explorer are near identical. But to my eye the CW seems to wear slightly larger due to its more pronounced & squared lugs, a broader bezel, larger hands, larger crown and crown guards, and the protruding part of the end links being broader.

If you’re looking to scratch an Explorer itch, the CW “C36” should be the short list!

Yeah I think that’s the one I’m going with. It’s the closest to what I’m looking for without spending roughly 4-5k! Thank you so much for the pictures!

The finishing on the new V4 Summiteer is awesome. The pebble-shaped case, the polished sides, the new raised indices, and the hardness coating are all reasons I love it. I have a V3 36mm Summiteer and I have the 36mm C36 from CW. If I had to pick just one, I would go for the Summiteer. You really can't go wrong either way.

Hey man! I’d love to see a side by side picture if that’s ok. Thank you!

·

If the bracelet is still an issue check cw homepage. I just found out there is a new bracelet option for the C63

·

Which watch did you go with?

·

CW case finishing is superior but not at $500 more.

Traska, all day.
