This serie has come to it’s end. I believe you can call a watch from the period vintage without any initial prefix. It’s been great fun to write them and you have shared some beautiful gems from your watchboxes.
The 70s was as I recall it a turbulent decade. In some areas there is a feeling of Deja Vu to todays situation in Middle East and Europe. Israel was attacked, not by Hamaz but, by Egypt and Syria. Yom Kippur War in 1973 had an huge impact in the World with the oil embargo that followed.
When OPEC cut the oil export countries supporting Israel was targeted. Soviet Union invaded, not Ucraine but, Afghanistan. On top of all that we saw an American President forced to resign and a Coup in Chile.
The watch industry faced a technique shift with it’s quartz movements. Design saw a reaction to the Mad Men era from the 60s. Vibrant colors and experimental design.

Pair of 1971 Defys
Wow, the red one is a real stunner👌 The indicis gives an amazing 3D effect. Thank you for sharing!
Three watches made under Communism and two Swiss made in more free conditions.
I find that I am losing interest in the watches of the 1970's. I appreciate the experimentation, but there is a coarseness that is hard to un-see in the designs. I also think that quality suffered, particularly late in the decade. I may sell 40% of these by this time next year.
The book Retro Watches: The Modern Collectors' Guide by Josh Simms and Mitch Greenblatt offers a fine tour of this madcap decade in watchmaking. It was perhaps the most experimental since the 1920s.
Here's my Lip Montre Diode, a re-do of a watch that Lip introduced in or around 1974. Fred Lip invited several industrial designers in to experiment in watchmaking. One of them was Isabelle Hebey. This is one of her designs. Her influence reached far and wide, and even though it's my cheapest watch, it's so singular I'll never let it go.
Awful for many things - e.g. music and fashion - but pretty good for watches …

Thank you🙏
Nearly 100% of my purchases this year have been 1970s era. Actually have 2 more on order!
Sears Automatic - Japan Made
Lanco Jump Time - Swiss made
Tressa Automatic - Swiss Made
Seiko 7009-5008 - Japan Made
Slava Tank TV - Soviet Made
Timex - Taiwan Made
Timex Marlin from 1973 - not sure of origin - strap says Swiss, but no mark on case or dial confirms that.

They can’t be considered classy compared to earlier decades but I find them interesting and they spice things up a bit. Thank you for sharing your gems!

Thank you for the litterature suggestion. Beautiful design of your watch. I don’t see how the strap works, or maybe it’s not a conventional strap? Thank you for sharing!

The 70s was interesting because they had A LOT of experimental designs!! I think they are cool though!!! Can't wait to see your posts about the 80s, 90s, 2000s and 2010s
Thank you, but for this serie I stop at the 70s.

I ran this serie last year as well. The plan was to stop after the 70s but was asked to continue. So I did. But it never took off and the original requesters didn’t turn up. So this year I stick with my initial plan.

Shame.....I feel like a LOT of people have watches from the 80s to 2010s, so that there would be a LOT of engagement

That’s true but as it turned out not so many saw a reason to share specially for the serie. I think it’s ”to close” to today even if it is 30-40 years ago now.

Hard to believe that the 90s is 30 years ago and the 2000s is 20 years ago!!! Time flies (no pun intended haha)
Wow so so wished any of my uncles would have pass me down any of there watches. I always looked and admire what they were wearing Timex, Bulova, or a Movado. most of them they wear all one watch persons and they all wear them hard until the end.
