What is your seller’s remorse?

A couple of years ago I had acquired a limited edition of a Yema Superman GMT in Bronze. It had a stunning blue dial.

But it also came with a number of issues which led me to sell it after a few months of a "Yeah! / Meh..." relationship.

Anyway, I keep wondering whether I should have been more patient and kept this watch, especially now that they are rare and expensive on the market and re-buy just wouldn't make sense in terms of price.

What watch have you sold you wish you hadn't?

I haven’t sold a watch I owned before yet but I would imagine that the feeling is normal. Even if you feel 💯 sure you wanted to move on from the Watch once it’s gone you think about it more and more wondering if it was the right decision. But I think that’s just human to want what you don’t have even if you had it and don’t have it anymore more. You follow? 😅✌️😉

Thats a gorgeous watch, I can understand your remorse. What made you sell it?

It had issues with the movement, the watch didn't run well at all after a few months. I sent it to the manufacture and under warranty they swapped the movement for a new one but it came back with a problem with the crown which was functional but not "clicking" back into position after setting the time (I suspect the stem was slightly too long)

Also, it was a chunky piece of bronze and it always felt somewhat top-heavy. I couldn't get a good fit from the leather strap (either too loose or too tight). the Rubber strap worked much better but I didn't care for the look of it. And it was hard to find a Nato that worked well with the blue / bronze combination.

but you're right: it is a gorgeous watch, hence the yeah/meh feeling.

3861 Sapphire Sandwich Speedy literally 2 weeks, as I couldn’t get a good fit on the bracelet. Also was chasing the Monaco.

Monaco recently sold and all the time I’ve missed the Speedy 😩

This is a very lovable watch for sure.

I miss every watch I ever sold but it is what it is. Gotta make room for more

·

I’m lucky in that I’ve not sold, have given to fam/friends instead 🤙

I never sold a watch. Buy Carefully, Delighted Eternally! 🤷🏽‍♂️😋

My Hamilton khaki automatic 38mm. I was jarred with the size when I first got it and sold it for the 42 and then eventually realized that 37-39 is where I need to land for my wrist / forearm size.

You have a point. However Buying and selling can also help identifying taste and preferences while experiencing various designs, functionnalities, qualities.

·

No remorse, they are gone for a reason and new one came instead

·

To avoid this, i dont sell any of the watches i own. Or i may just be a hoarder. 🤪

·

My Submariner. The price in which I bought it and the price I sold it for was a no brainer. I probably won't ever own one again is bringing me the remorse.

A Seiko Turtle Padi 😐

Would’ve looked fantastic on a bond nato. Did you try that? I sold my Omega 300 Seamaster. Luckily the guy was local and let me trade back (Breitling Avenger).

Do you regret on the sole basis of them being more $$ on the secondary or do you actually miss the watch?

Just curious! 🙂

I’ve bought and sold many over the years and I honestly do not miss any. There has always been a reason I’ve sold - some weird quirk or design that’s just bothered me.

It's mostly the overall design and the stunning blue/bronze contrast of colours that I miss. I also have a bit of a connection with this brand since they're from France. So not really a matter of value on its own, but more value and personal appreciation versus availability (scarcity).

In contrast, I'm considering selling my Sinn 104. If I sell it, I know it's not a model that is going anywhere anytime soon, and I could find another one relatively easily.

Quite a few indeed! and some nice ones too!

I've drooled over the 42 mm Murph quite a few times 😜

Yep these are quite nice too. Can’t say I’m fully sold but it’s an interesting design for sure

Beautiful watch, but didn't stay because of the combination of the printed fauxtina numerals and the lack of AR coating really made it quite illegible. Gutted.

Nope should’ve kept it and to be honest pick up the new rubber strap and the black snoopy strap from a few years ago. Was looking at the black nato, but would’ve annoyed me covering up the sapphire caseback.

Now they’ve got the micro adjustment push button clasp, that would’ve been ideal. Oh well.

"Voulez-vous des frites avec ca?" (Sorry, that's the only French I know).

TAG Heuer 1000, bought circa 1990, also with stunning, absolutely stunning blue dial. I bought it out of a Sharper Image Catalog for $395. It was not only the most beautiful watch I ever owned, it may have been the most beautiful thing I ever owned. I sold it to buy a power amplifier.

Here's a good rough test to see if you're a watch hoarder. Open the front door of your house. If you are not immediately buried under an avalanche of wristwatches, you are not a hoarder.
