Are Deployant Clasps Great or 💩 ??

I recently purchased a grey barenia strap Delugs. I sprung for the deployant clasp. (What’s an extra $20 at this point?)

My question is how do y’all feel about deployant/butterfly clasps? And why?

Theirs are very well designed from what it seems. Really Dig!

C. It depends on the style

I prefer the Omega-style deployant clasps - much more comfortable design on my wrist. 👍

Comfort really is a big deal. Some designs definitely work better.

I said “hot garbage,” but really mean “it depends.” Longines and Omega have great ones. Seiko and GS are awful.

Hahahah tale as old as time. One day seiko world will care about they’re bracelet/straps options. Cuase the watches are A1

When I started with the whole “watch thing”, I would order deployant clasps for every leather band. They looked great but most of the time they were a bit uncomfortable. Now, I have a desk draw full of deployant clasps because I removed them all (except for two vintage dress watches that see very little use).

Simply a case of I want to like them but in reality, I don’t.

Got rid of the ones I had. I found them too finicky to use. Bracelet or strap for me.

Something I’m still deciding on is the thickness… they’re definitely thinner without… which- for a dress watch - is the goal right? I’ll report back I’m sure.

Definite more steps. I’m still quite clumsy with it 😂😂😂

I Have two watches that have deployant clasps. The idea and use is fine. The problem is, when you have small wrist. The folding part of the clasp is going to be near the lower lug of the watch. That can be uncomfortable sometimes.

·

I have a few for JLC and GS - I find them all very comfortable.

·

Depends on type and brands, ex. I always satisfied with Tudor clasp

That’s fair. It’d be so nice to have some subtle adjustments.

It always seemed like a solution to a problem that was never there. A simple buckle works, the same design holds my belt in place and I've never thought "oh why isn't there a deployant available".

I think I've only got one left, and it's serving to remind me never to purchase another.

Haha! Their claim is less stress on the leather strap that’s past the buckle. I haven’t had these straps long enough to know… we’ll see😂

·

I have never been able to find one that offers a comfortable fit, either too loose or too tight on my wrist.

Well made ones are great, cheap ones never feel secure to me.

It’s definitely got potential to be majorly finicky

It is super comfy

Oh yeah I bet!

It’s a delicate balance… I’m working on that now. We need half sizes in straps or something

·
OldSnafu

they should not be on leather unless you can't figure out how the buckle works. great for metal though.

Mr. Snafu coming in hot! The folks at PP and JLC my have a retort for ya 😂😂. I think the main thing is, “how easy can I size it?”

They seem to try to look like something else (regular straps), and I don't like mimicry in that way. It feels like a trick more than convergent design to me. If I want something that looks like a leather strap with a buckle, I want it to be a leather strap with a buckle, not something that tries to be one.

Hmm. I want to understand what you’re saying. Could you give me an example or pics maybe ?

I've never had a strap I'd rather have a belt buckle on. I've only had good experiences with deployant clasps

Hahha that’s funny. I dig mine ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I like the Omega Style deployant clasp as well. I am trying to put them in all my watches that have leather straps.

I also posted a poll about buckles, Omega Style clasps and butterfly clasps.

Like others, I like the Omega (tuck under) deployant clasp but I like them in general.

I think it also depends on the type of watches you wear - some suit a (butterfly) deployant clasp better than others. We’re also starting to see advancements in butterfly/folding deploayant clasp with micro adjustments (Formex for example)

Hahaha that’s fair. 99% sure you can get the same claps on Amazon for $10 bucks. Which ones do you suggest?

Well the only other ones I have are OEM ones from omega and a glashutte original and they work great. The only 3rd party one I tried is from delugs but it's just bad.

The oem ones are crazy expensive to buy if they don't come with your watch though.

Seriosuly… I’m looking into 3rd party stuff and it’s tricky $$$

Yeahhh! These omega straps are top notch 🎯
