The flip side of NWA

Some of my fave posts on the Crunch are the NWAs. It's always great to see what gets other watch nerds excited, and why they have decided to buy a specific timepiece. But how about OWA (old or outgoing watch alert ๐Ÿ˜‚)? I'd be equally interested in reading why Crunchers are selling watches. Is it to fund the next purchase, get a different version of the same watch, or a design/physical quirk which drove you so mad that you had to get rid of it?

Random musings on a Saturday afternoon.

I agree with "old" watch alert, but you guys sell your watches?! ๐Ÿ˜…

Sometimes, but it's always to fund another watch! ๐Ÿ‘

Yup ๐Ÿ‘ all the time. But the core pieces and the ones with sentiment always stay. The ones I sell are usually bystanders of this hobby or to fund grail status pieces.

I have my reverso listed on Chrono24 right now. For years I (thought) I wanted one. Got it in 2021, have only worn it about a dozen or so times. I still think itโ€™s a gorgeous watch and I love the design, but I donโ€™t ever really wear it so I canโ€™t justify keeping it.

I had a Reverso, loved it, but ultimately sold it. After the honeymoon period, it got very little wrist time.

Mine is the Explorer II. I have loved that watch for years. I've now owned it for a year and it's probably the watch I wear the least.

I'll move it on eventually. I'm holding on for now as I don't want to be branded a 'flipper' by my AD. That's a whole other story!

I know what you mean. I got one of the new 41mm Oyster Perpetuals but never really connected with it, it just never sat right on my wrist. I traded it in for another watch (my absolute favorite watch) but let my AD know I did it. He was fine with it, probably because Iโ€™ve bought a few other pieces for him.

At 20 watches, my collection is a bit too big to wear a lot of them and Iโ€™d just like having fewer. Iโ€™m selling a small handful of cheap ones like my Timex Qs and my CasiOak. I have a bit of a vacation with my brother and mom soon and I intend on giving my brother my Brew Retromatic (donโ€™t tell him ๐Ÿ˜‰). Heโ€™s been a career barista for some time now so the brandโ€™s affiliation with coffee has always reminded me of him, and I believe itโ€™ll be his first mechanical watch, as it was mine when I got it.

I wore my Brew yesterday and I do really like it but I think heโ€™ll enjoy it more and Iโ€™d love for him to have it.

I just sold (and shipped) my Limited European Edition/Glacier Blue Seiko Alpinist. I liked the watch well enough and it served me well, but I've moved on. My Nomos NWC Club special edition has kind of taken its place as far as my grab and go/errand/walk the dog watch . . . and if I'm getting another Seiko it's going to be a Grand Seiko . . . I already have the Shunbun SBGA413, and I'm thinking about acquiring a 9F GS Quartz for another grab and go option but ideally with a GMT function.

And while I'll stick with it for a while . . . I think my new Kurono 34mm Midnight will likely go in the future . . . it is a bit too small, I think . . . but I'll give it some solids months wrist time and see. I don't want to be "that guy" and flip Kurono for unfair prices though, so I'll likely sell it for very close to what I got it for (and prob throw in a strap, which I often do when I sell watches). I think I just got excited about a new Kurono and pulled the trigger when what I really want is a new Classic Kurono design.

What a great gift with even greater sentiment behind it. I'm sure he'll absolutely love it.

Are you going to replace the ones you're selling with a single watch, or more of a spring clean? 20 is a chunky collection!

I have recently won an auction on eBay for my first modern Seiko! I ordered a Turtle that should be here today and there are no more slots in both of my watch boxes. Most of the ones going away are cheap but the Brew will be missed.

I have only been collecting since October 21 and I haven't sold any watches so far.

I have about 25 watches and there are some that don't get.much wrist time but I fear I have a bit of a hoarding gene in me so I don't think any of mine will ever be outgoing!

ยท

Thatโ€™s actually a very cool idea

That's some quick journey on the collecting front! Never say never, I didn't sell any for years. Happy hunting! ๐Ÿ‘

I hear you. Even if we love them on paper, some watches don't stay the course. Most of the time it's more to do with us all as individuals than the watches themselves.

Iโ€™ve come close to divorcing a watch here and there but after letting a couple days go by and swapping out the strap/bracelet, I change my mind; and the honeymoon phase resets. Perhaps my wife goes through the same process when it comes to me!! ๐Ÿ˜โค๏ธ๐Ÿค™

This LE GS with the new 9SA5 movement and ever brilliant steel.

This can also help us swap watches here in this platform. Not a bad idea.

I feel like your post was good luck for me today, just accepted an offer on the Reverso.

Now what to get nextโ€ฆ.

It's New Watch Alert. Have a look on the watchcrunch menu, there's great stuff posted on there. ๐Ÿ‘

Ahh, yes. Confused here, very easy to do with me! Yes, I hope you got what you were looking for price wise.

So, do you have a shortlist of watches you're considering? ๐Ÿง

No worries, the way I wrote the comment it could be read either way. I got just above what I was hoping for so very happy about that. As a seller, the crazy price hikes from JLC have been beneficial.

Iโ€™m on the wait list for this model right now with my AD.

I decided to give Rolex another go.
