The dilemma of several watches of the same model

Part of my 2024 watch collecting plan is to diversify the brands and styles in my watch box.

The biggest issue is deciding which ones go, and which ones stay.

Are you strict in only having one of a model in your collection, or are you happy with several of the same, even if that means they're taking up space, and funds away from other potential watches?

Keep all 😅

That's really helpful, and also my current opinion! 🤣

Hahaha. Seriously though, why buy all of them and then sell them off. You seem to like the model a lot, why give it up? 😅

I have duplicates but they're at the cheaper end. I wouldn't have a duplicate at 4 figures, I could put that towards something else.

I do like it 300m. The original quartz model was the second watch I ever bought, so has sentimental value, it's just a lot of the same rather than diversity. They do all feel very different when wearing them. Maybe I just need to be in less of a rush to get a new and different watch.

Yes, that's dilemma. Trading in two or three would open up a lot of possibilities to part fund a pretty special dress watch.

I think the green and sky blue are statement pieces and ones that will age well. Keep the quartz as a ‘beater’ and sell the black and gold. It’s never going to be a dress watch so I don’t see the point of it. Better to get an actual dressy piece with some gold in it.

·

Yeah, don't see owt with it. I've got 2 Willards. If someone makes you happy, then why not 🤔👍🏻

That's some valid reasoning, and I tend to agree. The black and gold is a stunning watch in the flesh, but I guess my thinking is to replace it with something more elevated.

The Omega guy in me says get even more , my Iconic “great white” SMP300 is still missing with you

·

I, also, could not stop at a single Seamaster 300😍

Oh the 'great white'! Danilo @drcarter13 knows that that one is eating away at me, as the Seaweed is for him! It's cheaper than the other models too!

The SMPs would have to stay 😉. When I think about luxury watches I don't see too many enthusiasts with two of the same models in different dial colors other than the SMP. That speaks volumes about how great each color looks.

·

I wouldn’t buy two of the same generation but if it was two different generations of the watch like pictured here than manybe they are differnt enough

·

I have only done this with Vostok Amphibia (pre-war) and they are so affordable collecting dial variants is part of being into Vostok watches. I stay away from picking up more of the same for higher-end pieces - ex. I love Omega Aqua Terras, but as much as I would love a black teak dial 38mm, I already have the green teak dial 41mm. So for that level of money acquiring another brand or model for diversity fits my collecting preferences better.

·

I'm open to more than one watch per brand. Seems needlessly and arbitrarily restrictive. I also believe in branching out because there are so many options. You can do both.

I think it’s fine to have multiple of the same if that’s what you really like, but for me, the higher the price point, the harder to justify multiples. I have limited resources, so I want a diverse experience with those resources.

I’d definitely keep the blue aluminum bezel version. As much as I like the blue le from this summer, I think it should go if you already have a blue one. Personally I think I like the green over the bicolour (but I like both) but ultimately just whichever head to head you prefer more you should keep. I will say, there’s lots of other black dial dive watches out there to experience, so maybe ditch the black sea master and go for one of those if that’s what you’re into.

Edit: but damn honestly the blue one is so good…

You see! It all seems so easy when start off. The black and gold is the most logical one to go, but when you put it on it literally sings. The photos don't do it justice. It's the SMP which is always on the chopping block, until I wear it that is.

It’s like having multiple Ferraris

If I could, I would! 🤙

That depends on my mood. I really can't choose one. The blue one is the "classic" one, the white is clean and makes me feel "summerly😄", the Seaweed changes the color depending on the light conditions and the "No Time To Die" is one of a kind. If I HAD to choose one it would be probably the "NTTD". It wears light, is flying under the radar and has no date.

You have the same take as me. They're all the same, but equally wildly different. Not many watches have such distinct personalities like the SMPs

For me only one watch of each brand. And in this Omega is easy to chose, the Blue one.

No, the Gray dial is perfect.

No, the Rose gold Seamaster is the most beautiful thing ever created.

But put the rubber strap, is perfect. No, the bracelet. No put a Nato strap.

Endless thinking. Impossible to decide.

I am with you! 🤝

·

First world problem. 😂

I prefer diversity. But then, different strokes for different folks. Go with your gut.

·

I wouldn't mind having multiple of certain models. The Omega Seamaster is definitely one that I would.

·

The ones on the left stay, and those on the right go! 😜 🥂🍾 👌🏼

Short and simple! 😂🍻

OK, if I was culling those four Seamasters, I'd keep the Brosnan-era one, then ditch the modern blue one because you don't need two blue watches. That leaves the black one and the rose gold (?!) looking one. Of those two, black is the easy one to keep. Better looking, and compatible with different clothing choices. So there's two gone, without breaking a sweat, and two great - and different - Seamasters still in the case. That wasn't hard at all.

Great logic, but still easier said than done! 😂

It's superb logic :) and I'll give you another reason why - if you're keeping the cheapest of the four via the Brosnan, you're retaining two Seamasters and having a point of difference between them and maximising what comes back to your pocket. It's wins all 'round!

Yes and the best thing for a guy like me is that it’s kind of a strap monster nearly every color of strap fits the white dial and if you have a pop of red on the strap it looks really full circle

I don't even want multiples of the same brand let alone the same model lol
