How to fix it?

OK I'm pretty sure this is my fault because I have a habit of wiping my watches with a glass-cleaning cloth that has been saturated with a chemical cleaner (doesn't seem to be alcohol-based, but there are plenty of other harsh chemicals, I suppose.)

As you can see, the little dot of lume that is at the top of the bezel is starting to scratch off; I think that's because of being repeatedly wiped with the chemical cloth.

So how do I fix it?

Should I try to apply a dot of lume paint on the bezel? (Are those paints still radioactive?) 🤣 Can civilians even get that kind of paint?

Should I buy another bezel from Invicta, and get a local jeweler to install it?

Should I just forget about it and do nothing?

...Thoughts?

About the lume itself, its no longer radioactive. Only old/vintage watches have that kind of lume.

About fix the watch, go to a watchmaker. I dont think it's worth it to buy a lume kit only for a dot. Replace the entire bezel insert is also an option, but not necessary as I could see on photo.

You may not like my answer but i personally would just leave it the way it is. I say this because I personally like my watches to tell a story. This one is yours. But if you can live with it then you can try changing it out your self. What your looking for is a bezel insurt. Measure it your self but a replacement and give it a go.

Good luck my friend. I wish you the best either way you go.

Ps watch YouTube videos on how to change it your self. At the very least you will have a proud connection to your watch if you do fix it your self.

Stop wiping your watches with whatever you are using.

You can DIY it. Lume paint can be inexpensive or expensive. I recommend going the inexpensive route. As it is an Invicta, I doubt it has terrific lume. (I am not bashing you watch, I am speaking from my own experience.)

Unless you have a very generous watchmaker, it will probably cost more than it’s worth to have them reapply a lume dot to the bezel.

If it were my watch, I would leave it as it is.

The pip came off mine!

And for years I lived without it , then I came across lumes pips sold on Aliexpress I got 4x luminous pips for £10:00 shipped

It does sit proud but I think it kinda looks ok as it’s more substantial than the original, each pip comes with tweezers and glue (the glue that comes with the pip is useless so I used super glue).

A dollop of Liquid Paper or other such correction fluid will fix the daytime issue for free if you have access to an old school office supply cabinet containing it.

Stop using chemical saturated cloth to clean your watch. Just a soft regular cloth is good enough to clean off a days grime. I use a Selvyt (brand name) cloth. I saw them being used in a high end jewelry store once and I got one whi;le makming a watch purchase. Great cleaning cloths for watches and jewelry.

I’d measure the insert and see if it’s a common size. If so I’d get something cool to add a bit of spice. Maybe fully lumed? Or an interesting color pop.

Believe it or not, the library that I work for keeps it on their bi-monthly re-stock list. 🤣 There are still a few people around here who use it on a regular basis. 😎

@Bayl61 Andy:

Update on this: today, I received in the mail my order of two Invicta Pro Diver lume pips that fit the Pro Diver bezels. (I ordered an extra, just in case.) I couldn't find any for Grand Diver, but I am pretty sure the lume pips for the Pro Diver are the same size. It only came with the pips, it did not come with tweezers nor glue, but that's not a concern, because I live 5 minutes away from a Lowe's 😎

The one I got looks like the right size, but it doesn't look as tall as the one you have. It's really thin and flat. I will indeed need tweezers to handle it, because it is teeny tiny, and I have fat, Godzilla fingers, LOL 🤣

You used Super Glue? Specifically? And it bonded to the metal? (I was under the impression that you needed epoxy for metal..?) Please advise. 😀

Hi

I did super glue mine and they are firmly attached, having the shallow pip might be a benefit as there’s less risk of it being caught due to its lower profile! firstly I thoroughly cleaned the surfaces with methylated spirits and used the tiniest amount of superglue, it worked a treat for me, the supplied adhesive was pants to be honest.

To place the pip used some rodico shaped to a point and when in place use a small watchmakers screwdriver to hold it in place and remove the rodico!

It’s fiddly work you’ll need magnification but take your time and use the glue sparingly.

Good luck 🤞🏻

I’ll see if I can get a macro of the fitted pip on my grandie!

Here you go, close up you can see slight traces of the glue but from the naked eye it’s great!

JB SuperWeld came today in the mail. Here are the results:

This is supposedly the best super glue you can get.

Watch application results:

It looks slightly off-center inside the triangle, but I think that's because the indentation itself is off-center:

Looks pretty cool to me, don’t forget it’s an after market repair so it ain’t ever gonna be 100%, yours looks a good 99% 👍🏻

I think you’re right about the centring the manufacturer has set it slightly off Center but I’m sure you can live with that, I could!

Here’s mine I’m sure you’ll agree we’ve both done a good job 👏🏻👏🏻

BTW I’ve modded my grand diver now, new second hand and I’ve removed the magnifier, with a black n yellow strap on the way!

That second hand looks sweet! I have thought about replacing the crystal as well, upgrading to sapphire, and just ditching the magnifier. That would give the watch kind of a "Duro vibe." 😎

I haven’t replaced the crystal, just removed the magnifier with heat it took literally seconds to do it👍🏻

I gree with the Duro vibe and think the watch looks a lot sharper with a flat crystal 👌🏻

The reason I want to replace the crystal is because of a pet peeve that I have with Invicta; their motto is "Invincible in Detail," and yet, they do not use the best available material for their crystal. They use a hardened mineral crystal instead of sapphire, so really, they're not invincible in detail.
