Tissot Service: To Mail, or Not To Mail?

Ok, so the second hand on my Tissot Classic Dream has started jumping in 4-second intervals. This is the end-of-life indicator for the battery.

Tissot recommends having the battery replaced at an authorized service center.

The nearest one in the U.S. is in Nashville, TN. That's 561 miles away, or an 8.5 hour roadtrip. Needless to say, I'd be mailing it to them.

I received this watch as a Christmas gift in 2021. It was purchased by my mother on Dec. 12. According to Tissot's website (I registered my watch when I first got it) the warranty ran out on 12-12-2023. (They only have 3 yr warranties for their COSC watches. This dress watch is obviously NOT certified with COSC.)

So my question to all of you is:

Would you mail it to the Tissot service center in Nashville?

or

Would you let a local watchmaker (whom you trust) replace the battery?

I would probably just do it myself. Is there something in particular that makes it abnormally complicated?

I'd get it done at a local dealer if you have a reliable one.

Honestly, it's not that difficult to do yourself. The only thing is if it's a press in back you might need a press to get it back on.

Failing that I would take it to an AD or local jeweler, not one of those places that do shoe repairs, cut keys etc. I've learned that from bitter experience😂

Not really, but I tend to baby my favorite watches. And the Tissot is definitely one of my favorites. I do personally change the batteries on my digital watches, and on my inexpensive watches. (Invicta, Casio, Texas Instruments.)

For my sentimentally valuable watches (the Stuhrling, and the Ecko) I take them to my local jeweler.

But the Tissot, and the Citizen, get treated with kid gloves.

My biggest fear in doing it myself is that the caseback will somehow prove difficult to remove, and I might end up trying to force it, and in turn, scratch the caseback to perdition. 🤣

There is a jeweler about 35 minutes away from me, called "The Jewelry ER," and he does jewelry and watch repairs. He has worked on my Ecko watch before. If I take it to anyone local, it will be him. 👍

I recommend this press https://a.co/d/6IKdGUp

For affordable end battery watches, I personally don’t think it’s worth sending it. But that’s just my humble take ✌️

Is there not a shop that sells Tissot as an AD? Like a Macy’s or Nordstrom or whatever retailer sells Tissot? They’d be able to help too I’d imagine.

Nearest AD is 2.5 hrs west of me, in Dallas. But it still might be doable.

You have sold me! 😀 I think I am going to try that press. I watched all of the videos on it, it looks very simple to operate, and is exactly what I was looking for! Thanks! 😀👍

Bravo 👏

Just take it slow!

I have a similar model, and I replaced the battery before I had this press (was def more annoying). But I recently used the press on a coworker’s watch and it worked like a charm.

Use the larger chuck/attachment on the bottom to protect the crystal. And put a good battery 🫡

Better learn to change the battery from now on if you intend to keep it. It's going to need a lot of battery changes for years to come anyway

That -=IS=- the Classic Dream, just on a leather strap instead of a bracelet.

I would definitely replace the battery by myself but if that wouldn't be possible for any reason I would have it changed at local watch maker, I just don't see any reason why would somebody send it for few weeks away. Battery changing is a simple task and any watchmaker should be able to do it within couple of minutes imo
