NWA: Longines Hydroquest GMT

As a kid, Longines always seemed like a special brand. I was always fascinated by my grandfather’s dress version (manual 3 hander in gold with aligator strap). In the 90’s I was all about Omega, Tag and Cartier and forgot about the brand…

Until about 5 years ago, since then Longines has continually put out more and more intriguing offerings. When the Zulu GMT came out in the smaller size, I was pretty sure I was going to buy it. When I tried it in on though, the stars on the dial and the signed clasp bothered me.

The new Hydroquest GMT was not on my radar. It seemed like so many other offerings out there. In my mind I could spend way less or way more and get better. Of course that changed after I tried it one.

What a delight! The green really got to me. The contrast from the ceramic bezel was just enough. No stars on the dial and a more modest signed clasp. I prefer closed case backs so that’s a plus. Only the the crown and the sides of the bracelet are polished. Its luxury without being precious and I don’t feel conscious of wearing it like I do when I wear my Rolexes. Initial thoughts, at $2775 retail this watch I wish was about $500 less but maybe that’s asking too much. Get rid of the date and/or change the 6 and 9 indices to large rectangles, perhaps, and this could be a perfect daily wear, luxury offering.

I like zulu time gmt 39 green dial, this one is nice too, but too big

Longines is a special brand. 👍

On my 6.5” wrist this has presence like my favorite watch I wear, the 42mm Pelagos. I have many friends with similar wrist circumference, it doesn’t work for them. I think wrist must wider than it is tall for me to pull this off.

Lovely! Longines are a brand with very special history and they're currently knocking it out of the park!

Tony that's a really cool piece. I need to start paying attention to Longines. I see a lot of comments about how good they are. I think you picked out a great one. Enjoy it and wear it with smiles. Congrats!

So now you can dive in a foreign country and know exactly witch time it is at home.

The real deskdiver dream 🥰

Enjoy it and hope the watch will bring you happiness 🙏

·

Yup I’m sold on the brown one!

The degree of fineness and attention to details in longines is extremely high. It is an underrated brand in the USA but it’s big deal in Asia and Europe. I think one of the reason Longines is not so known (like Certina) is because they have zero or maybe only one boutique in the USA. And many stores are retracting their in-store Longines watches and put them for online sales only. As far as I know only 1 Longines boutique jn NYC. The Florida boutique is very smaller.

Love that color combination. Awesome. Nicely done!

·

Congrats! Longines is my dream!

I’ll be in Miami later this year. Assuming that the boutique is there, I most definitely will check it out.

Agree, the Longines brand has a real "old world charm", from the Weems, to 13ZNs to Conquests, such an elegant heritage. I'm so glad the brand is back with watches like this!

·

Longines is the original! And that color combination is striking.

·

Amazing piece

·

Congratulations, great choice 🎉

·

Really hate the hands on the Conquest, and not here, the dial colours and finish, looked cheap, the is another thing tho, a great value proposition for a legit brand dive gmt, flip im gonna have to check it out.

Biggish tho innit?

It suits my taste, but most, if not all friends who share my wrist size, would swear this is too big.

·

Great watch! On top of my list of GMT’s to buy along with the Hydroconquest GMT and Squale Sub-39 GMT.

·

Lume shot.

I wish they would add that quick adjust clasp to the Zulu time bracelet.

I got hands on with the Hydroconquest GMT recently and was pleasantly surprised at the ergonomics of the case. Beautiful watch and congratulations on the purchase!
