My first luxury purchase was an Omega 300 for my 5th wedding anniversary . Wore it everyday for 10 years. Relationship ended and eventually the Omega stopped. The quote to service it was off the charts, circa $1,000. I only paid $2k for the watch new. A TGV video popped up on the tube circa 2016 within days of the Omega failing. I discovered Seiko, Hamilton, Tudor, Vostok, Sinn, Bulova etc…. I quickly realised that the value proposition was off the charts. Suddenly Omega, Rolex etc felt like “Greeds infinite manipulation”. I purchased a Seiko Turtle.
After years of constant flipping, with many regrets, plus endless strap purchases I came to the personal conclusion, that anything over $1K is excessive. It just tells the time. Autos are an outdated technology, thus I love the charm of basic movements.
It’s a personal journey. Purchase what you are comfortable with financially, wether it’s Rolex or Casio. For me my priorities are on family, holidays, assets etc. Time.
You only really need 2-5 watches maximum: Dress, Casual/Sports, Everyday & Beater.
You have to wear your watches. Enjoy. Don’t get clouded by peoples perceptions.
