Whiskey Lovers, Should I Open This?

Look what I found in my basement all covered in dust! This was a leftover bottle from my sister’s wedding, tax stickers still intact. Bottled in 1980. The Rolex was not found with it.

Since I don’t use other social media apps, and I know there are lots of whiskey (whisky) lovers here, what do you suggest I do with this?

As opposed to drink it? Send it to me!😂

I don't know whether the bottle would have any value due to scarcity - but I tend to doubt it.

Whiskey doesn't age once it's bottled. So, no time like the present! I say open it and enjoy in honor of "the proudest achievement of Canada's most distinguished master distillers" - not to mention your sister's wedding!

Crack it open already!

·

It’s not going to drink itself!😀

She was married in 1980? So her 50th will be in another 6 years or so, assuming she’s married still. Save it and give it to them for their golden anniversary! That would be special.

Unfortunately both she and her husband have passed, but that would have been a great idea. Maybe I’ll invite her children over to drink it with me

Drink it. It will never get any better in that bottle or crack it open for one of their anniversary.

·

Drink it !!!! Doesn’t taste very good if you’re not alive to drink it

·

If you knew you were going to die tomorrow, would you open it? I would.

·

Yes drink it. Carpe Diem, YOLO, and all that. Cheers

An amazing idea. Much more special than just cracking it open by yourself. Share the experience! Love it 😍

That’s a good idea , share a drink with them and while you’re doing that also share your stories. Don’t know how other people are but I love stories from family members of previous generations

Was the watch on it when you found it?

Bottled my birth year. I like the idea of birth year whisky more than birth year watches. Cheers!!

I just checked the price of the bottle and its worth about $500. see linked below: https://www.oldspiritscompany.com/products/schenley-o-f-c-8yo-blended-canadian-whisky-distilled-1972-bottled-1980-40-114cl

I say either save it to share it to celebrate your sister's first child and drink together or when they have a divorce. Hopefully the first one. Or just drink it when you buy a new Rolex.

It isn't like wine. It can degrade. I have known people who kept a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle too long. One didn't taste as good. The other passed away, never having cracked it open, waiting for the perfect occasion.

·

Such a cool old label on that bottle! Enjoy while talking watches!

Invite them on their anniversary.

·

Save it for a special occasion. 👍

·

That's some very shiny dust you got there...

·

Hey thats my birth year whiskey! That’s a really cool find. We found a ton of decade+ old alcohol when clearing out my dad’s house after his passing. Most of it was opened and then stored in the basement for some reason so we didn’t risk it.

·

If you’re a whisky lover then YOLO 🥂

·

If not an investment, then crack it open.

·

If you die first you will be soooo pissed off in the astral realm 😂 drink it !

·

What you waiting for invite your sister over and get the family reunion going old photos out the lot and have a great time ..
