The heritage just brings this swagger that is missing from all the other D65s. There is a boutique version out there that has no 6 o'clock date. I think its from Topper.
I decided to purchase this specific watch as it had three things going for it. 1. It's from the month I was born. 2. It's a proof/proof from 70, which is later than most proof/proof units as this was a JDM and they were using up the old dials that they couldn't use on the export models (8001) which required Resist dials. And 3. The machinist for at least the first 463 (but not more than 638) mistook the D for a 0 on the year stamp for March 1970 so this has a D3xxxx vs. and 03xxxx serial...which makes it a unicorn. (I have seen 8 other D3xxxx's out there the lowest being a 0096, the highest being 463, and I have seen a 030639- which is what Im basing my range on)
All these details made it worth it. I also bought a second 6105 based watch as a potential doner.... Which I have since become attached to ...so now I'm in the market for another 6105 based watch.
So short answer/ not great.
Its got 40+ years on it, If you plan to wear it a lot, I would consider an service. The 6119 is a work horse, but 1970's lubrication has long since dried out and you mosdef have some things rubbing that shouldn't be.
BTW- I have been a seiko fanboi for 25 years and have seen only 1 of your exact reference. As you can see in the images below from their 1968-1971 JDM catalogues, there are a lot that are close, but not exactly on point.
This could have been from 68-71, but not a JDM. Or it could be from 72 or 73 (which I don't have JDM catalogues for)
What is the serial number? XYxxxx X=year, Y=month, xxxx is unique to watch.
So 93xxxx in your case would be March, 1969.
Either way, dope piece. And it was your mom's, which makes it even cooler. Your mom is cooler than me.
