Vostok Factory Tour (subs)

The Chistopol #vostok factory still makes watches almost exactly as it did in the '50s, same machines, same production methods. Ever single element from cases to mainsprings made on prem. It's a great peek at how utility mechanical watches were mass produced back in the day.

๐Ÿ‘ I also learned a great tip about stretching out the bezel spring before inserting it in the bezel.

Compare Vostok with the Raketa factory tour I posted about here . Big difference. Economies of scale are a thing.

Wish it had subtitles

YT lets you turn on/off closed captions or subtitles. On PC you use the CC icon at the bottom with the other controls, or on phone get into settings with the gearwheel looking icon.

Wow, I always assumed they were the bigger, more modern factory. It must have been crazy back in the 90's when all these factories who basically worked for the state were suddenly thrust into a situation where they had to compete with each other to survive. Glad both did. Thanks for the link!

It's just a shame I can't buy watches from there anymore

Meranom is still able to ship from RU to the US. It takes about 4-6 weeks (2-3 weeks to get out of RU, 1 week to get to the states, 2-3 weeks in customs) Meranom is located directly next door to the factory.

If you live in the US there are plenty of domestic and EU resellers who you can buy a Vostok from. I have a list on my vostok modding site of retailers who ship to the US and other EU countries. https://modstok.com/

I live in the UK and I don't want to risk buying directly from merenom but I also don't want to pay the inflated prices the modders are asking. The whole idea of vostok for me is something I could mod myself without breaking it. I'll carry on trying to snag a bargain on ebay.
