Back And Forward Then To Certina

So after observing many dive watches from the "higher tier", talking Longines, Tag and even a pre owned Breitling (which is a bit too expensive for me now),I've gotten back to the place I started from, wanting a good looking and reasonably priced dive watch. I really "dig" this Certina (certina c036.407.18.040.00) and its Blancpain look, but am not sure sould I get it. So I need YOUR HELP crunchers. Tell me about your Certina, the downsides, pros... And maby even show me a watch I haven't even considered. Thank you crunchers and see you again!

I like this watch, especially the bezel. The vintage look reminds me a bit of my Baltic Aquascaphe but different.

·

The certina looks a great watch I’m sure it will be a good buy. 🎯

I have lots of divers but for a quality diver that’s not too expensive I’d also look at CW👍🏻

This one’s 9 yrs old and still runs wears perfectly!

Gotta love those DS 1 casebacks 😬

I really like this certina. I just ordered this limited Baltic as I was looking for a nice dive watch myself. Seems they both have that sapphire bezel... but that blue looks great.

Plus it has a date... some people nee that, not me though.

I have a Certina titanium diver and I love it. The bezel action was stiff at first but is AMAZING now- clicky and crisp. Fit and finish are very good. Only thing I don’t love are the male endlinks on the bracelet, which won’t be an issue if you go NATO obviously. Highly recommend the brand! #certina

I really like that specific DS PH200 though it is the 500 I've been wanting to pull the trigger on.

I'm drawn to the orange colorway though all the variants are a-ok by me.

Love Certina!

Here is my favorite modern Certina...

Some really great other references as well...

I currently own the previous iteration of this watch. The only difference between the models as far as I know is the colors and bezel material - so I think that would make comments appropriate and applicable for both.

First, I’ll just start by saying I’ve enjoyed my time with the DS PH200m. My favorite part of the watch is the handset - I really like the sword hands and the bright red (my model) seconds hand which reminds me of the timing hand on the Speedy and adds a wonderful pop of color. I think the aluminum bezel on my model is a bit drab in comparison to the newer model’s. The bezel action is confident with very little play though for me the 60-click bezel doesn’t provide the same satisfying tactile experience as other watches. The overall size really toes the line for me, with the lug distance making the watch appear on the verge of extending past my 7-1/4” wrist (when seen in side profile). My model’s particular colorway allows it to pair great with basically any strap. I am not fan of the mesh bracelet that came with my model.

Hope that helps - good luck on the decision ahead!

I don’t have this reference, but can confidently say Certina makes good watches!

Thank you so much!

Have purchased 5 Certina’s so far within the family. Good looking quality at a reasonable price.

I just got this Certina yesterday! Not a dive one. I researched about the brand and I love its history. Specially in dive watches. Definitely a ton of watch for the money. In my case though, I am no completely happy with the bracelet, but I will find a nice strap for it. Teddy Baldasare has some reviews on certina dives worth watching. Good luck!

Certina really is the Swatch Brand with Omega DNA. I purchased a DS Action Diver Chronograph new when they first came out a while back. I felt that watch really had some Omega DNA in it.

Unfortunately, it was one of the pieces I got rid of during my collection reorganization. But it went to a friend of mine and he absolutely loves it.

I honestly think that the brand is underrated.

I've had the DS PH200-m (the hesalite / aluminium insert variant) for about 5 years.

I absolutely love it, won't ever sell it.

It's one of the most 'affordable' watches in my collection - but more importantly - doesn't feel like it on wrist. That says much me thinks. The case finishing and hand set / dial furniture is outstanding for the money, its history is interesting and its design is first rate.

You need some wrist to wear it, no doubt - but it's not as intimidating as the specs would suggest. The case itself is ~ 41mm (it's the overhanging bezel that gives it the stated 42.8mm girth) and the lug to lug is 51mm, so it's long. The springbars are well placed though, some relative distance inboard of the lug tips making it wear sorter, particularly on a tropic (or similar). It wears very well on a nato too. It's thin at just under 12.5 and wears like a 41mm on wrist.

The lumens is good - not Rolex or Seiko good - but better than most Swatch Grp. good. Legibility is first rate too. No complaints about the bezel action - minimal back play only. Mines really accurate, well within COSC. The only things I'd whinge about are the scratch resistant coating on the outside of the hesalite crystal that makes polywatch unusable (... idiotic - but easily removed and not a factor if you're buying the sapphire variant) and my bezel is very, very slightly misaligned.

It's a very good 'toolish' diver by any metric and a fine watch, particularly for the money they cost. It's a hidden gem. Buy away! ☻

Thank you @Hodonkee, one more question, what size wrist do you have?

Thank you @Hodonkee, one more question, what size wrist do you have?

Large! 20cm / 7.75in.

·

I’ve got the black dial variant and can’t really think of too much that’s wrong with it. Size wise it’s right in my sweet spot at a touch under 43mm, but people may think that’s a little too big. Divers are meant to have a wrist presence so I think the size is spot on.

It comes with an 80Hr power reserve, and this model has an exhibition case back.

If I wanted to be negative I guess the lume could last a bit longer, but other than that I absolutely love this watch, so Certina gets a big ✅from me.
