Seriously how much thought do you put into case size?

I was always that collector who started wearing 38-40mm watches than went to the above average case sizes in the 42-45mm than lastly to those in the 47-50+mm. I probably like many sought of got caught up in the bigger the better or the smaller the case the more appealing it will seem to others. Which strangely makes sense especially in the luxury market. We would never see a brand like Patek make a 50mm watch not because they can’t but because it’s not in their DNA. But a brand like Invicta will. In the last couple years I went from wearing nothing but 47-50mm watches now to those in that 40-44mm case sizes. But now that I’m getting older I could really careless about the size of the watch just as long as I like the look, brand and price. But what about you?

Constrained by genetics, I only buy 36mm-40mm. I feel that anything bigger looks ridiculous on my 6.25” wrist

·

I own watches that range in diameter from 34mm to over 50mm. When I go about buying a new one, it comes down to how I think it looks on my wrist and, most importantly of all, how much I like it. I'm more likely to pass on a watch for being too thick rather than having a diameter that's too small or large and even then I've still got a few rather chunky specimens in my collection. Ultimately it's a highly subjective judgement call.

·

You wouldn't know it from looking at my collection, which goes from 33mm to 46mm, but I actually weigh the size of the watch quite heavily in my decision. I've been known to mock up a paper version of a particular watch size to see if it looks and feels right on my wrist!

·

Everyone has different wrist sizes and preferences. I have a 7.25” wrist and find 39-42mm is my sweet spot depending on watch type. My only watch outside that range is my Aquis and that wears like a 42. Some 38’s look ok if they’re a little longer in the lugs but most everything smaller than that looks too small on me.

·

I only wear watches under 39mm now for comfort. Physics for the win.

I'm pretty much exactly like this unless it's a g shock. I have a fairly broad wrist for 7.25" circumference, but I just prefer the aesthetic of how 46-50mm lug to lugs fit on me. Watches with larger bezels can stretch into the 40s for me, but watches with small bezels work a bit better at or below 40mm. When it comes to anyone else's wrist, I don't care if you're wearing something shaped like a dime or a hockey puck.

·

I wear from a 29x42mm square, a32mm round case to a 47.8mm round (Arnie).

In most cases the size depends on the watch. However anything 50mm or over is clownish, no matter the wrist size.

I have seen very large individuals with large , garish watches and all they are missing is floppy shoes, orange hair and a big red nose.

·

I generally skip right past anything with a 3 as its 1st number. However, lately I have purchased 4 39mm that sit OK on my 7¾" wrist. Bigger the better is still best imo

I have a baby wrist 🤣.

6.5 inches, means I can’t go bigger than 49mm lug to lug. I care more about that than case size.

Since I can wear up to a 44mm in some watches.

For example, my Casio Duro has a case size of 44mm but, the lug to lug is 48mm.

So, look more at the Lug to Lug if you are worried 👍🤝.

My personal sweet spot is 39.. however, have from 34 to45.. I hardly wear my Sumo, which is 45.. only one I have at 45, rarely wear it because is a heavy fucked. Beautiful though.

·

I go by how the watch look and how much I like the look of the watch. I have watches in 40 mm size as well as many in the 46 to 52 mm range. Again it all depend on the look and appearance of the watch

·

You talk as if many of us have a choice haha! Signed, a modest 6.5 . . . wrist size that is. But you know what they say about small wrists, right? . . . .

Haven't figured it out myself. But I'm trying to go 35-37mm wherever feasible. And that's relatively easier for me since my tastes lean more towards dress watches that traditionally come in that size range anyway.

·

I have been buying watches that I love for so many decades that I spend no time trying on a watch until it is properly fitted in the case of bracelet timepieces, which means the watch has already been purchased. I spend my energy checking out the finish and the movement more than what the watch will look like on my wrist, after all we are not talking about a bespoke suit. 38mm is not a preference but 39-44mm works well for me. I do own a few 48mm watches from when the size was in fashion as far as I am concerned still fine.

As long as I feel it looks good on my wrist, I don't care what the dimensions are.

·

I have backed down from a starting point of 47mm Invictas to somewhere between 40-45mm AliExpress watches (Steeldive, San Martin, Addiesdive, Loreo). The "Willard" style case which seems so comfortable to me doesn't seem to me any bigger on the wrist than a 40mm Sub homage. I have seen several smaller cased watches that interest me but I haven't gotten around to them yet.

My biggest watch I currently own and I can’t believe I’m saying this is this Invicta 63mm GMT Sea Hunter don’t ask me why I bought it. I’m still questioning that myself several years later.

And yes it’s has heavy as it looks.

What do a hockey puck and a boat anchor have in common? I want neither one strapped to my wrist. So case thickness, case diameter, lug-to-lug distance, lug angle, and weight all factor in, as they simply affect comfort.

👍🏾

Small means "doesn't get in the way", "isn't exposed to accidents" and "doesn't strain the wrist by being heavy".

Aesthetically, I can wear everything from 32 to 42, but the usual sweet spot is somewhere between those. My thickness limit is 13 mm, not including a dome on the crystal - it's the bezel that always gets in the way.

Then there's lug length and geometry, that I judge individually.

·

I’ve owned everything from 36mm to 44mm to Panerai which I think is 46mm?

It doesn’t matter a ton to me but I prefer 40mm personally and less than 13mm thick. It’s just more comfortable for all day wear and harder to ding when a watch is smaller.

·

I can't believe I wore a 38mm for about two decades. Admittedly it was styled nicely to not look all that big, but that is beyond what I would ever get again. I tolerate 36mm or so for sport watches but for something I actually want to wear it's usually 34mm or less. It's always the first thing I look at in a watch and, given the Texas-belt-buckle size of the (mercifully dying) oversize trend, usually spares me further interest.

It’s a mental thing. Just have to be willing to try them for a bit and keep an open mind about it. I have the same wrist size and have no issues pulling off watches that are 34-44mm. Could probably go larger with the right watch but have never tried before.

Nowadays I put very little thought into watch sizes. I used to but I found it really limited me in my watch choices. This hobby got a lot more fun once I stopped caring about sizing so much.
