Q: How did you get into watch collecting?

I suppose the truth is that as a young boy I noticed most men wore a watch and knew the importance of knowing the time. This was before cell phones so they were more than an accessory. I started wearing them when I was a teenager.

Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?

I wore everything from Suunto to Casio G shocks while a young soldier. I actually remember a Timberland brand field watch I wore as a teenager.

Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?

I don’t have it anymore, but my first higher end watch was an Omega Seamaster 300m Chronograph. I bought it in 2007 I think. I honestly knew nothing about what I had. I learned in the military that a good watch could get you out of a jam. Life got difficult when the pandemic happened and I ended selling it at a loss to pay the rent and some bills. I miss it and I want another Seamaster but I can’t see myself paying 5-6 grand for one today.

Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?

No substitutes because you won’t be satisfied and do try and get your hands on it before you buy it. Seeing it in person can change your views versus online.

Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?

I am a Seiko guy first and foremost but I do like Omega and Tudor. Vertex and Serica are on my radar also.

Q: What is your grail watch and why?

Omega Seamaster 300 heritage series
