I use watch rolls primarily now but I do have a 4 place and a 2 place hard sided watch case. Unfortunately they used the bane of longevity, bonded leather, and now at least one is "shedding" and starting to look ratty. Still good on the inside but the outside....
Yah. I bought my Omega Planet Ocean in 2006 so that is 18 years, albeit I bought it in the fall. My Datejust is also that old though I bought that in summer. I'm sure many of my Hamiltons fit the bill.

I do hope you understand that Miyota is to Citizen as ETA is to the Swatch Group. Recently I have picked up a few mechanical Citizen and I like them, far better than Seiko. Miyota is also used by Bulova and many micro brands.
According to the authors definition of an independent, Patek qualifies but the author seems to ignore the fact that they are family owned and not part of a larger group. A. Lange and Vacheron, mentioned along with Patek in the same sentence, are affiliated with larger groups. For that mater I suppose Rolex would also qualify
