The ubiquitous GA-1200: as soon as I first saw one, I wanted it. But that was back at the beginning, when I was just looking to buy the $20 Casio Royale that started all this. $100 for a watch seemed a little extravagant at the time. I was so much more innocent back then...all of six or seven months ago. More recently, having developed a radically different understanding of what counts as "extravagant" in watch world, I felt ready to take the plunge. But then I had some decision paralysis to overcome. You may have noticed: there are a lot of watches in this line.
As the attentive (like @NightWatch and @sagebrush) will recall, one of my acquisitive principles (read: "excuses") has been adding dials to my collection in all the liturgical colors--largely (though not entirely!) because it keeps my wife more or less on board with the endeavor. And one color I had yet to add was black. With Good Friday (besides Masses for the Dead, the only time black is used liturgically) on the horizon, I decided to accomplish two aims with one purchase.
These "CasiOaks" are so well-documented by now that I can add nothing to the body of popular knowledge; I'll say just that it is exactly what I expected it to be, and that I adore it. The blacked-out version is, under all but the very best lighting conditions, every bit as impossible to tell time with as everyone says. But it looks so damned ferocious, I really don't care. If Darth Vader wore a watch, it would probably be this thing. And the extra $50 to get the imported Tough Solar and Bluetooth-equipped version in this (lack of) color was money well spent; I love knowing that it's keeping perfect time without me having to do any button pressing--even when I can't quite see what that perfect time is.
And it's not like I won't have a chance for a lot of button-pressing in the future. There are a lot of watches in this line. I'm pretty sure this one won't be the only one to make its way into my watch box before all is said and done.
Perfect Good Friday watch.
Humble and unassuming but solid and powerful.

That's just how my wife describes me! 😜
Are you my doppelgänger?
Are you my doppelgänger?
I don't think I can prove that I'm not...
Has anyone seen both of us in the same place at the same time?

I think my wife might describe me like a Tissot. Accessible but well dressed and little more pretentious than I have a right to be.

Speaking of pretentiousness: here's one more pic I'll archive here for posterity instead of just letting it wash away with the flood of WRUW shots.
If you get another 2100 you can swap out bands and bezels like nothing!

I'm thinking another two or three! I think the Black Watch is destined to remain intact, but I can imagine myself going nuts with a few others!

Another two or three? Whoa! I stopped myself at 2, but I was really tempted last week when Macys had a sale on the Casio watches. I need to stop buying watches.

That is a fantastic shot!

Off the top of my head I can think of 2 more that I probably MUST have, but I’m leaving the door open to more just in case. And I hear ya. I need to at least slow down!
That is a fantastic shot!
Thanks! True happy accident! (Or divine destiny.)
I love my Casioak. I procrastinated buying mine for a while. But it’s become my most worn watch and I wish I bought it sooner than I did.

It's so good. One of those happy instances where the outsized reputation of something turns out to be totally justified, IMO!

I was a bit wary of giving into the hype. But it’s 100% worth it.
