Early birthday present for Dad!

My Dad would have been 73 years old in just over a week. Sadly he passed when he was 47 and I was 19 years old. His Tag Heuer that he gave to me when I was a teenager is a treasure to me in every way possible, so it broke my heart when it stopped working shortly after a servicing 22 years ago.

My 13 year old son has never seen this watch working.

A month ago, I stumbled upon a local spectacle shop, a mere 5 minutes walk from my home that had a small sign saying that they also repair watches. I had never noticed the sign before. Mr. Onizuka it turns out, is a second generation watch expert, only shifting his family run business into spectacles a decade or two ago - but he retains all his ample watch expertise as well as two generations worth of watch contacts. From Bregeut to Casio and everything between, if he can’t fix it, he knows someone who can.

I had brought my father’s watch and my wife’s neglected watch with little hope that either could be repaired.

Yesterday I picked up both watches after Mr. Onizuka’s lengthy apology for taking nearly a month. They were both successfully repaired. I nearly hugged him. I would have waited years.

Early birthday present for Dad, treasure of a lifetime for me! Absolutely stoked. Hurrah!!

Great work getting it fixed and finding a decent repair guy. I am wearing my dad’s old Tag today too.

Lovely watch and lovely story!

·

I have a similar one, it’s one of the most comfortable watches I own. Wear it in good health.

·

Beautiful story. I’m glad to hear you where able to get it working again. That’s the magic of this hobbie when we are living in a world where everything is made to be thrown in the garbage this allows you to bring back to life and pass down over and over again.

Thank you for sharing this with us

Thanks for sharing your story, love that now you have your dad’s Watch working and one day it will go to your Son when ( god willing ) many years from now will inherit it from you .

·

Amazing watch, lovely story. So glad it’s fixed and it can be enjoyed for further generations.

·

Great write up and a beautiful story! Great whisky (Hibiki!) as well 😊Cheers

Very kind of you to say- thank you!✨☺️

Yes, I wish I had a bit more time, not going to lie; that period of my life was not the best - but it’s all part of me now. Made me more grateful and not take anything for granted - valuable life lessons that do make me happier every day! Good to meet you mate!🤝✨

Thanks for the kind comment. I know what you mean! The link straps are so smooth and rounded - like ball bearings or marbles on the wrist!☺️✨

Completely agree! Throw-away culture will be the end of us! I try to shop with “one and done” mentality. Except for watches…where the mentality is the same but the number limit is different! ✨😄

Thanks David! It really does make me smile and keep the memories alive. Yes, my son will hopefully inherit this watch…and a Grand Seiko which WILL be mine in a year or two!😜

·

You said BOTH watches. What was the other?

·

It is great to hear you found someone to fix your watches. Wear the TAG with JOY in the memories it brings.

·

BTW what model is the TAG? My brother is looking for an older TAG, if he can find one, and I think he would like that if we can find one.

·

Thank you for the wonderful story. Your father would be proud.

·

I have a Henry sandoz fils, handover to me by my great grandfather and since years it was not working finally I decided to give it for servicing so I could enjoy the family watch my great grandfather left me after a month of trying it's finally done.

Wonderful write up & sorry to hear of your fathers passing too soon.

A former co-worker has this exact watch, given to him when he was young by his mother.

She reminded him a man should always have a good watch & he's cherished it ever since.

It wasn't working & he stated he was going to have it serviced.

I remembered it being quartz & offered to take a look. Turned out it just needed a battery. He was thrilled when I showed up on Monday with a functioning time piece.

·

No amount of money and no luxury watch can replace the time spent with your father. That old TAG will serve as a reminder of that, and has more value than even the most expensive timepiece.

·

Man this gave me chills. So glad you were able to get it repaired.

·

Glad to know your dad's watch is working again. Keep it well & wear it in good memories of your dad! 🍻

·

Great story and I have the same quartz version, purchased it in 1991 when I bought an engagement ring. Still going strong ( just the watch not the marriage) LOL

·

A classic Tag Heuer (emphasis on the TAG)!

·

Congratulations. That’s awesome. Wear it in good health. Maybe that watch will make it 3 generations or more.

·

Very,very happy for you.

Congrats on getting your dad’s Tag fixed. That model was a grail to many back in the days. Your dad had great taste in watches 😊and so do you!
