Old name. New watch.

How do folks feel about it when companies recycle old or discontinued names onto new watches that don’t have the specs or purpose of the original? Travesty? Just business? “Yay! My original is now going to be sought after”? 😂

I think bringing old names back that don’t fit the original are a travesty and just business.

To use car examples…. Sometimes it’s great - F-150 Lightning, Hummer EV. Sometimes it’s terrible - Mustang Mach-E, Dodge Charger.

Seikos pricing has been marching up hill recently. Not all of it certainly, but some. I wonder if they are adjusting themselves upmarket with the influx of so many micro brands.

But this offers a horrible value. You can buy something just as good for a 3rd of the price. Skipping watches from Longines, Oris or Christopher Ward to get this thing would make no sense

At least it's not a mashup between Scrabble and Sudoku. I'm all for actual names.

As for the watch itself, I think the price is not what I would be looking for.

·

I think the new Marinemaster makes far more sense than the older one. Watch buyers went through a spec chasing phase, and now it seems there is more emphasis on comfort over specs.

I'm also guessing that real divers weren't wearing the old model all that often, so making it more "everyday" friendly was the right call.

I'm not a fan of it. The original 'is what it is'. Trying to get a halo effect onto what is basically a different watch is quite cheesy. And like the earlier guy who replied, I was actually going to use the Mustang example, too. I still can't get over how stupid Ford was for doing that. It's not a Mustang. Good grief, I hate modern marketing people.

I even happen to own one! It’s actually a really great car. What it has to do with a mustang I have no idea.

I didn’t say it was a GOOD idea 😂

A lot.

Presumably Seiko’s answer to try and compete with the dominance of Black Bay. Circa £/$3,000 market.

🤔Hmmm not sure, eyes aren't processing it properly looks like a 62mas blended into lots of different watches not just from seiko, going to have to see in person.
