So this rolled into the shop yesterday...

This is an Ellis Rotary, an enigma of a watch. Firstly, I have no clue how they used to word "Rotary" without facing some legal action from the Rotary...

Hairspring versus human hair

We all know that hairsprings are super thin and delicate. I found a tiny remnant of a coil on a balance cock that I bought as a spare part and decided...

Considering South African representation on watch social media, I probably have driven it to number one in some ways.

As a South African, I can confirm that we all own no less than three Rolexes each.

Losing a dog really hurts. I still remember the loss of our rescue Jack Russell that my father took from an abusive owner at a job site he worked at. He left us four years ago and I still think about him.

My condolences and enjoy your holiday.

My watchmaker has had many ancestors stretching back centuries making clocks. He almost became a mechanic, which would have ended the streak.

He's got mostly Dutch blood (as do I, albeit with a healthy sprinkling of German too) and apparently it's sort of a "Dutch thing." Somehow, geography and genetic makeup sort of decided my fate before I even knew it. I remember there was some sort of theory that your genetics actually play a role in the sort of skills that you have, although I'll have to look that up again.

Very nice find. I'm a lover of all things family history and the watch and clock connection is the cherry on top.

I was about to mention this. I speak Afrikaans and it's the same, just with slightly different spelling; "vandag."

Which would you rather have?

I mentioned this in my NWA for my Omega Seamaster. My Eterna Matic 1000 and Omega Seamaster are very similar, so, out of curiosity, which would you rather have. Here are the specs: Eterna Matic 1000:...

It just makes sense.

Some holiday work: Citizen 63-1817
