Q: How did you get into watch collecting?

A blue Casio Outgear Fishing Gear watch as my 15th birthday present. One thing led to another and I'm here now.

Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?

First proper one was a Casio WSC-1250H-2AVDF, the Fishing Gear watch mentioned previously.

Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?

Camy Genēve Club-Star. I bought it new old stock from my local jeweller. His father owned the shop in the 70s and was approached by a Greek immigrant who wanted to buy the shop out. The Greek didn't have a lot of money, so the deal was settled with the father keeping half of the stock and the Greek businessman paying him in post-dated cheques. While the son (the current owner) was doing his two years' service in the army, his father passed away. The Greek man then helped him take after his father by assisting him in managing the shop. The son paid him back in just the same way, post-dated cheques. The Camy was one of the watches the father kept, so it was still in its original plastic sleeve, sitting in the worn cardboard box that it was originally shipped in.

Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?

Buy what you like. Think every purchase through and find your niche. Do some research regarding pricing. That way, you'll seldom regret a purchase and won't feel ripped off. And also: vintage pin-pallet movements are hateful things that bring the strongest men to tears. Avoid like the plague unless you trust yourself to service one.

Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?

Breitling, TAG Heuer, and whatever obscure vintage brand makes itself known to me next.

Q: What is your grail watch and why?

Ball Engineer III Marvelight Chronometer Caring Edition. Because tritium and because rainbows. Rolex Milgauss is also an honourable mention. Because science and magnets are cool. Top one might just be the Breitling Premier B25 Datora.
