Which would you rather have?

I mentioned this in my NWA for my Omega Seamaster. My Eterna Matic 1000 and Omega Seamaster are very similar, so, out of curiosity, which would you rather have. Here are the specs:

Eterna Matic 1000: Eterna calibre 1489K, automatic, 17 jewels, 21 600 A/h, 33,8mm in diameter, 39,3mm lug-to-lug, 10,8mm thick, 17mm lug width. Engraved "East London Municipality 1972 G. Notule 26-1-45 for long service."

Omega Seamaster: Omega calibre 1342, quartz, 13 jewels, 3 600 A/h (32 768 Hz), 34,6mm in diameter, 41,4mm lug-to-lug, 10,5mm thick, 18mm lug width, City of Johannesburg coat of arms (1939 – 1997) at six o'clock. Engraved "Presented to D.A. Maree in appreciation of 25 years service Johannesburg City Council."

I like both a lot, and the size of the Eternal is better IMO, but Omega is always such a top notch watch it's hard not to vote for it.

Very tricky. Assuming both are gold plated?

I'd probably go with the Omega because of the quirkiness of the coat of arms on the dial.

Although they look similar the fact that one is a "grab and go" quartz and the other mechanical means that they'd both have a place in my watch box.

I have one Omega De Ville quartz and multiple similar mechanical gold dress watches which are stylistically almost identical. The Omega would be one of the last to go because of the practicality of quartz.

Yep, they are both gold plated to the exact same thickness (20 microns.) Those are some seriously cool watches you have there!

I'm of the boring plainer-is-better stance, and I really have grown to dislike the Omega horseshoe (I know it's a Greek letter, but I just don't like how it looks) so I'm going Eterna.

I am very bad at remembering that the engraving on the one such watch I have is even there. Sorry great uncle.

I also seldom remember any engraving.

As much as I like your eterna the coat of arms is cool. How repairable are old quartz watches might be a concern?

The 1342 is fairly reliable from what I hear, apart from some plastic stuff in the date change mechanism which is not necessarily known for holding up. I hear that there are also magnetic wheels somewhere in the movement, so demagnetising a watch like this is a bad idea.
