Two households, both alike in dignity...

I know my pictures aren't that good, but I really don't want to wait until sunrise to show off my new to me Omega Seamaster.

This watch was issued to D. A. Maree for 25 years' service at the Johannesburg City Council; that's why that nifty little crest is there at six o'clock. That crest for CoJ was retired in 1997. It packs an Omega calibre 1342 quartz movement, which I believe is a later example as (presumably) older variations had only seven jewels and transparent circuit boards, while mine has thirteen jewels and a black circuit board. This movement is really interesting in that the hours hand is adjusted using the crown and the seconds and minutes hands are adjusted using a button within the crown. That system is very similar to my Tissot PR 516 quartz calibre 2035 and there's a good reason for that. Dig around a bit and you'll find that someone developed a quartz movement for a friend, but let them put their name on it and pass it off as their own.

Note how similar this Omega is to my Eterna Matic 1000. They are both small, gold-plated dress watches from luxury brands that occupied (back then) the same market segment. There are too many similarities to mention. Which would you choose, '70s mechanical Eterna or '80s quartz Omega?

From the fatal loins of these two foes (quartz and mechanical) a pair of star-crossed lovers take their lives…Since you are citing the biggest love story, both watches should be together but one is going to die earlier😅Both are beautiful, I would chose the Eterna with the strap from the Omega. That dial of the Eterna (and that logo) is cleaner and just too beautiful.

I hope you didn't jinx me now! No watch will commit suicide on my watch. I'll keep them away from poison.

The Omega's strap would look lovely on the Eterna, but it's just 1mm too wide as a result of the Eterna's horrible 17mm lugs.

Lucky you for having both! Bonus point for the organic chemistry backdrop.

I favour the Eterna, and not just because it brings back fond memories! 👍

It's fitting that Etrna and Omega insinuate "until the end of time"! I would keep them both, even though, outwardly they are very similar, they are very different internally and compliment each other nicely.
