This is watchmaking. This is history. This is reliability. Movement finishing seems not to be a concern of the masses anymore and display casebacks are in vogue. Imagine this bad boy, the legendary BFG 866, in a modern dive watch with a display back. No date, no problem. You don't need more than three hands. Movements like this one allowed prestigious brands like Omega and Rolex survive the quartz crisis. In fact, many high end movements of today, SIXTY YEARS LATER, still share much of the 866s architecture. In its day, it was renowned for being accurate, reliable and easy to service. As a watchmaker, these are my favourite movements to work on. All of the wheels on one three quarter plate (many high-end German brands employ a similar technique) makes servicing fast and easy. That's if they need a service to begin with. Mine has been running well for sixty years, even with old pre-synthetic lubricants. Luxury watches with these movements are incredibly collectible, when you see one, be sure to snap it up.

Maybe, maybe not. A lot of people/companies thought the same thing about Rolex and bought a bunch of watches at the height of the market. We all know what is happening now. 😎
