JLC Reverso - Never Know 'Till You Try One On

After trying on the Cartier tank a few times and never feeling it I didn't pay too much attention to rectangular watches. On whim, tried on a JLC Reverso in Boston the other day and got a totally different feel. Felt really good on the wrist, versatile, but a little tough to figure out sizes.

This is the Classic duo face day / night. I think the large / 47mm size. Noticed the discontinued 976 with the sapphire case back out there but think 49mm would push beyond my 7 inch wrist limits. (i'm a sucker for an exhibition back on a manual wind).

Anyone have experience with the different case sizes? Actually thinking stepping down to the medium may be a better option but will have to try one on.

I’m a proponent of smaller rectangular watches, so I’d definitely go with a smaller size than the one pictured.  I just think the proportions get all thrown off if the lugs are anywhere near the edges of the wrist. People get thrown by the comically small case size, but it’s more the lug to lug that’s important. The pictures watch probably has a diameter of like 34mm, but it looks much bigger.

Then again, I’m a Tank fan so don’t place too much weight on my opinion.

Tank is an awesome watch.  Just wasn't for me.

Thanks of the tip.     I have a vintage GP in 34mm that I wear and am fine with the size.   So makes sense that I should at  least try stepping down a size a bit and see how it wears.

I would give a smaller size a try. Maybe it won’t be right for you, but as you’ve found, you have to try some things on to know what works. Whatever size you go with, it’s a beautiful watch.

·

Yeah I would also try the smaller size on these. I also found the larger comically big on my wrist when tried on. I agree with @thekris on rectangle sizes. I like large Cartier Santos, med Reverso.

I have a 17cm (6,75”) wrist. I spent many times comparing the the medium and the large. Technically I can wear both i e the lugs doesn’t overhang with the large. But for me it was clear in the end that the medium was the right size for me.  Better proportions for me.

That looks great!!!

The watch looks quite big on your wrist. If you ask my I would say a little bit to big. For me the strap is always part of the design of a rectangular watch. So I think a smaller version would suit you better.

I had a rectangular watch that was about 38mm length and it worn like a 40 I would say. Rectangular watches seems to wear quite big.

Perfect.

·

I owned the same one you tried...I started to sour on the proportions and eventually sold it.  I may come back to the medium some day.

·

The medium-sized duo-face was perfect for my small wrist.

·

I think I'm the odd duck in this group.  I preferred the Master Control to the Reverso and went with that option with no regrets.

·

Kind of off topic, where did you try this on?  Im in the Boston area as well but havent shopped for watches locally...I havent tried any rectangular watches so I cant really comment but my wife wants a tank so Ive been searching for potential alternatvies like the Longines DolceVida..havnet look at the JLC though!

·

Medium would be great.

but talking of proportions I do prefer the tank. This just seems too ”long”.

·

I don't care for the Tank either. Much prefer the Reverso, but not sure if I will get one in the end. Still trying to figure out what dress watch to target long term I would go with the medium size.

Stunning!

IMO square/rectangular watches always wear bigger than the size. They seem to expand the perceived view, if that makes any sense (hey it's Friday, I'm tired and just had a beer. Bite me...).

·

Finding a good size for watches with rectangular or square shapes can be really tough. I had  stumbled across a great deal on a JLC Reverso Squadra Hometime, and even though the watch is really too big for my 17cm wrist, I fell in love with it and bought it. It doesn't get a ton of wrist time, but I'll often pull it out of the watch box and flip it back and forth, admiring the movement and the mechanism for flipping. The dimensions are 34.6mm across, 50mm lug to lug, with an overall thickness of 12.9mm. It's probably the least loved model of the Reverso based on it's shape and dimensions, but that just means it can be picked up on the pre-owned market for a reasonable price. I tend to prefer watches in the 39-42mm range, so the larger size isn't really an issue for me. YMMV.

Yeah, rectangular watches like square watches ia tricky like that. Always go smaller if you can.

You can get away with squares but it's harder to wear a rectangular with big L2L because you don't have the width to hide the height.

·

I have just over a 7" wrist and got the large.  It fits well, I'm not unhappy with it at all.  BUT, if I were to do it again today I would get the medium.  I just think it's a better look with this particular watch to go with what most would classify as classic sizing.

Just found the wrist shot.  Agree it looks fine.   But hear you that a smaller size might be truer to the style.

·

That thing is the epitome of style and class. I much prefer this to the Tank or Santos. A smaller size is probably best due to the geometric shape.

was in the city so that was at tourneau in copley.  They also carry Longines.

For Cartier I’d be working with royal jewelers up in Andover ma. Have always given us incredible service.   They also carry Oris who make a rectangular watch.

I have a similar problem! Reversos wear thicker and larger than the numbers would suggest. I personally want a Reverso Tribute Duoface Small Seconds, but that watch has the same dimensions as a medium Duoface which wears a little big on me:

Image

The small Duoface is perfect for my 6.25" wrist, but they don't make the Tribute models in this size:

Here's hoping that JLC makes smaller variations of their Tribute line.

·

Late to the party but I agree the medium size would be the right choice. I have the large version but my wrist is 7 3/4 inches and it sits well within the span of that wrist. Lovely watch though.

Personally, I feel the Reverso is more well built (engineering marvel too) compared to the tank. I have always wanted to add a tank but would rather top up the difference to get another Reverso.
