WTF Delma?!

I've posted about my Delma order and the company asking for ridiculous extra information or my order could not proceed.

I refused and my order was cancelled. Oddly my credit card had been charged despite the claim the extra information was required.

I just checked my account and the refund was more than $150 CAD less than what Delma had charged me.

Is every watch company just a bunch of thieves?

This is all too much. I'm getting out of this hobby.

I've enjoyed this community but am sick of all the crap.

That's disgusting! Should be able to recover the money from your credit card company?

Good luck mate 🤞🏻🤞🏻

You could file a fraud claim. Sometimes companies charge a restocking fee, but that wouldn't apply in your case since you never got a watch.

What was the reasoning behind it? I have purchased hundreds of watches though out my collecting journey. I guess the saying is true, buy the dealer not the watch. Sad

I'd ordered directly from Delma. They wanted a copy of photo ID and proof of my delivery address. I refused and they cancelled my order. They changed my credit card anyway and then refunded less. This was all in less than twenty four hours.

I was lucky, I got my Delma directly from a nearby jeweler. No online purchase from then in the future. Thank you for telling us.

I'd suggest only local dealers and even grey-market given my experiences of the last several months. Watch companies are just garbage now it seems. As I write this I have the only order I've not cancelled(due to waiting months for this custom piece) show up as not having the correct paperwork for the shipping company and is being held somewhere en route now for days. I asked them last week not to ship it if completed in the near future as I'll be out of the country soon for a while. They ignored my request and were stupid enough not to provide what was needed. Now it may arrive while I'm away and here in Qatar that's not good. If so I might never get it.

Sorry to hear about your situation. Had a similar issue with returning a Nivada Grenchen. Between shipping and customs it cost me a few hundred bucks to get out of the watch. Like @Hans01 mentioned, I will avoid buying directly from niche non-US brands if the watch is available from a dealer.

This was never shipped and was cancelled by Delma less than 24hrs after the order was placed. They basically just stole my money because I refused to send the copy of my photo ID and proof of address they demanded of me. I'm guessing they just sell private information like so many garbage companies these days.

·

Ugh. Sorry dude. There are better watches and days ahead.

·

It's still early. Keep at it and see if they'll return the rest of your cash.

BTW, I've bought directly from them and had no issues.

Best of luck!

I can hope they return what they kept but doubt it.

Did they demand copies of photo ID and proof of you living at your address like they did me? They lied and stated via email it was normal to ask this. I've bought hundreds of items online and have never encountered this. I refused.

No, but it was years ago. 4 or 5?

There's a lot of fraud and theft now. Sucks all over.

Since my credit card company accepted and paid them I doubt fear of fraud was the reason as it makes no sense.

The only theft I've encountered recently was committed by those companies I bought watches from. This would be number four in as many months.

But you sadly got nailed by a shonky outfit - and I’m very sorry that happened! Swine.

Photo ID for a watch sale!. That's just silly. One can only imagine that it's some form of nefarious data collection exercise. Seriously, what practical or security reason could they give that would seem reasonable. I'm at a loss to think of one🙄

Simply disgusting, nothing more to say. Sorry for you, no need to quit the hobby because of one case of rubbish brand stealing your money. Maybe stop buying for a while and educate more.

Sounds like you’ve had a bad run, but I would say you’ve got it all out now and you’ll never have a problem again. I mean avoid shady ones online, but yeah I think there are tons of stories here where we’ve gone ahead on deals we didn’t have 100% confidence in and had them turn out totally fine. My perspective is that less than scrupulous companies are the total minority. Also, for sure call your credit card and dispute the charge, tell them what happened and you will almost for sure get your money back.

Those are the reaons I mostly buy from jewlers and boutiques. When I order from the net, I try to get watches from inland online warhouses. I prefer a physical location where I can go and ask questions and iron out problems. Then again, I am spoiled living in Switzerland.

I am truly sorry that you had such bad experiences, like you had all of them. I have read your posts, and after all of that, I can understand that you have enought.

·

Note to self: do not buy Delma or Nivada Grenchen...

Sadly I've had about six months of stolen watches, warranty issues, watches that never showed up, the wrong watch being sent, shipping issues, orders cancelled etc. in addition to more than one watch company ripping me off.

That's crazy. I wouldn't have given them that information either

Yes I remember seeing your posts about the fiasko journey. Take a short brake from buying

Delma felt the need to send me an email stating they'd refunded the full amount to me and that something else must have been the cause of my loss like the exchange rate having changed in less than a day or some other. I wrote back that I'd made a purchase in good faith and pointed out that as a result of them requiring personal information that few in this modern time would provide am out money for doing nothing more than believing that they were a trustworthy company. They also failed address why I'd been charged for something that was made to appear could not be purchased until I provided them with the personal information. I felt and was lead to understand my photo ID and proof of address would be required to complete the purchase yet the purchase had actually been made. No refund would be required if it had not gone through.

The individual writing also chose to bemoan my "badmouthing" Delma via our email back and forth and on this site.

At least your all know they check out WatchCrunch.

Dear all, Runerider, Andreas here from DELMA as I’d like to clarify a few things. DELMA only requires proof of identity and address when an order is flagged as high risk by the system. For instance the credit card being registered in a different continent than the shipping address. You preferred not to provide the info, which is of course your right and instead cancel the order. DELMA has immediately fully refunded you the whole amount, the USD amount that you had been charged as shown in the cancallation email we had sent. The CAD amount that you claim DELMA stole from you, was actually taken from your credit card provider and not us. We have not taken a cent. I totally understand that you are not happy about this but this is something that you should address with your credit card company as we can only pay back what you transferred to us.

Best regards,

Andreas from DELMA

Hello Andreas. I'm sure others are thankful for the extra information. Perhaps like myself they may be curious as to what system flagged the order. My order did go through, it was accepted by my bank and credit card company, Delma happily took my money and then what?... some random guy at Delma decided not to send my watch until I provided a copy of photo ID and proof of address. This is information that no one would want to provide to a random company given the amount of fraud in the world. If you were protecting me in some way please explain how. If this was a gift going to a family member in another country would you then cancel the order due to a different shipping address? If this was indeed fraud please explain how the time I'd spend on the phone with the bank and credit card company sorting it out would be any different than what I have to do now to recover what I've lost due to how this was handled. Perhaps I "just don't get it".
