Q: How did you get into watch collecting?

I've always loved watches. I'd been collecting computer systems and Nikon film cameras but sold all my (large) collections when we moved to Qatar. I began felling the need to continue with a hobby. I have several watches from my younger years and a number from family members which just organically started me off. I now have about eighteen watches in my collection and currently have three on order and a few straps on the way as well. The Doha Jewelry & Watches Exhibition is very soon and I'm registered.

Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?

My very first watch was a simple kid's watch that I only vaguely recall. The next one was a digital which I saved for in the late '70s. The first one I know of with certainty and still own is a Seiko A159-4000-G my father gave to me in 1980.

Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?

Temper your desires. Wait until a piece truly draws you instead of just purchasing something that catches your eye. Ending up with forty watches of which only half really hold meaning is an easy trap to fall into... Not that I know from first hand experience, of course.

Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?

I've quite interested in certain micro-brands such as Kurono Tokyo as of late and those making vintage military styles.

Q: What is your grail watch and why?

I've had a love for Breitling for as long as I can remember and would love to add a Navitimer or Super Chronomat to my collection. I've also come to desire a Zenith Chronomaster... Who lusts after just one watch?
