On the look for a field watch

Hello everyone, this is my first ever post here besides the welcome.

As the title says I'm looking for a field watch with a small case diameter or even vintage size and a quartz movement, right now this are my options:

Lorus RG893CX9 (Titanium model)

  • Case: 37mm

  • Lug to lug: 43.5mm

  • Thickness: 8,2mm

  • Strap width: 18mm

  • Cristal: mineral

  • Movement: Seiko VX42

  • Weight: 33g

Ebay find (doesn't have a brand, but based on the GG-W-113)

  • Case: 33mm

  • Lug to lug: 39mm

  • Thickness: 10mm

  • Strap width: 16mm

  • Cristal: sapphire

  • Movement: Seiko VH31A (Meca quartz)

  • Weight: 40g

If you have any of these two watches could you share your experience, also if you have any recommendations similar in size, under 200€ and available in Europe would be appreciated.

Thanks for the recommendation, but I have actually try it on and the lug to lug measurements make the watch overhang due to having quite round wrist.

Ok, they have a 36mm version. That’s actually the one in the picture

I meant the 36mm version

If you want a VERY affordable (and reliable) Field Watch that has some serious "Hamilton Khaki" vibes and you don't mind quartz, then you can't go wrong with a classic Timex Expedition Scout. The black/white dialed one looks fab! 😀

Quite an interesting option, mind sharing a link

Don't have a link per se, but am sure can be googled. Check some of the pics in my profile and you'll see the one I own 😀

Good looking watch, shame I'm not able to find the 36mm version

I like my cheap Merkur (Seizenn) Dirty Dozen.

It has a great mechanical movement and is very comfortable on a seatbelt NATO strap. Just takes a while, ships from China.

Dave from Just the Watch did a great review on it.

Looks good, unfortunately due to the lug to lug distance of 45mm it will overhang

Citizen Ray Mears Titanium.

Easier to find in the EU.

I ordered mine thru the UK.

Check out Praesidus @ https://praesidus.com/

After looking at all of the mainstream brands I settled on this Veteran friendly company that produces historically accurate field watches.

I have one and one on the way. Love them. Have fun finding one you like! Here’s a pic of mine.

If you want a nice smallish quartz field watch I’d look at Bertucci

Image

Or Boldr

Both these are titanium quartz watches and they are around your budget new. There’s a shop in Denmark, so no taxes within EU, called Sekvens that Stock both, and there’s also Serious Watches in Holland that stock Boldr. Both places have had great service, Anders over at Sekvens has always been really helpful and John at Serious Watches has been great with helping me. If I’m getting a microbrand from outside of the EU I generally check them first.

Interesting options, I've been looking at them but the Boldr just goes out of my budget by almost 100€ and the Bertucci is too big and long (40mm case and 46mm lug to lug) but I have found the M-1S (30mm case and 39mm lug to lug) which is technically a women watch but the other option the A-1S is quite long at almost 46mm lug to lug, found it on Amazon.com for a bit over 100€ including shipping and taxes.

Or I could always go for one of the ones I saw, the Lorus titanium or the eBay find which both are in Europe and have a small case with a short lug to lug measurement.

It's an interesting option, unfortunately the lug to lug length would make the watch overhang and I'm not very fond of 38mm watches as I have a 5.9in wrists.

This Baltany has a lug-to-lug of 43mm, so should be ok for you. Baltany has a UK website too and has both quartz and self-winding versions of this.

Regarding the Lorus, you might consider the lumibrite variant instead of the titanium. You can get this from Argos for £30. This version lacks the messed up 3 at the date. You could also try to hunt down the original Lorus Titanium used on ebay, they show up regularly there, sometimes in job lots.

Thanks for your suggestion. Unfurtunately im not base on UK, but Continental Europe. A friend of my has the that exact Baltany and unfortunately the lugs overhang not much but enough you would notice. I also have been looking at a second hand Hamilton Khaki Field Quartz 33mm model H68311633 which is discontinued.
