Favorite World Timer?

Alright, Crunchers. I have wanted a world time complication for a long time but have never found one that hits all the right notes for me. With the Farer World Timers available again, I am curious to know which world time watches have caught your fancy and why.

I haven't seen many worldtimer watches with an automatically turning world time function. Often it is one you manually set when you want to know the time. Outside of a few very nice, but pricey (for me) options like the Omega Worldtimer or the Frederique Constant Classic Worldtimer Manufacture, and they only go up from there.

So I'll never stop singing the praises of this humble Citizen worldtimer quartz/eco-drive watch. It's JDM, and the radio function only automatically works in Japan. It is also a pain to set, though I only really have to do it twice a year (US) as it keeps accurate enough time.

The dial is busy, indices are small, and lume is "meh". But it's titanium, solar, great size (39/11.2mm) and has a certain late 2000s charm. Helped I snagged it for a good price off a certain auction site.

The Farers are another league obviously. Had a Hopewell II that didn't connect, but I'm sure I'll be back to their store again. Love the colors and design language of most of their catalog.

That Farer has got my interest to, the Mido Decompression Worldtimer are also worth a look. This is my one a Raymond Weil Freelancer gmt Worldtimer.

I live the bronze and steel case and that green dial plus this also has a caller gmt complication that the Farer doesn’t that I also like.

My two favourite world timers are the first generation JLC Geographic:

And the Farer WT Roche II:

The JLC might be mine one day, for now very happy that the Farer is almost on its way to me (ships March 6th) 🤩

I like the titanium omega seamaster

The Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra World Timer is my favorite by far. The laser etched globe in the dial is impeccably done, the teak pattern of the rest of the dial is so well done, and the rubber bracelet is the nicest rubber bracelet I’ve seen yet.

While they’re all great - especially the titanium and summer blue variants - the standard edition is my favorite by far, due to the clever way it handles cities with daylight savings time, by giving those cities a different text color. It makes the watch that much more useful for the job.

It’s strange that the other AT WT’s other than the standard and the gold ones don’t do the same and I don’t get why other watch companies don’t copy the trick.

Seiko "Age of Discovery." Also feels like an old world piece on your wrist.

I have this and love it. Buuuut, don't think this is technically a world timer? It's kinda like a watch with a GMT-like jumping hour hand without a dedicated GMT hand. If that makes sense. I think it's quite practical and enjoy it while travelling.

Orient star world timer with the rotating bezel.

I am looking to buy Junghans Meister Worldtimer as I think it ticks all boxes for me personally. There is also a white dial version on bracelet

A long time ago, I had a knockoff Girard Perregaux WT given to me by a friend, and I really liked that!!

Not exactly a world timer per se, even though it's called the Zürich World Time 😅 But for me the perfect watch when traveling, you still get your home time and local time!

Two very nice options! I was looking at the same JLC a few years ago but ultimately decided not to pull the trigger. A little too formal and dressy for what I am wanting.

That Farer though. It really looks the business and it seems to be a bargain at that price!

I still really like the JLC, but with a house renovation going on, the Farer - which actually really comes close! - is just a much better value proposition. And like you said, it’s more of a GADA watch then the JLC.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I love the Louis Vuitton Escale. It's great what they're doing with La Fabrique Du Temps over at LV, they're giving horology the attention it deserves. Definitely check it out (though, not exactly cheap!)

Breitling Transocean Worldtimer BO1 in house movement, watch was a gift from my wife, she and I spotted the watch first while vacationing in Europe more than 10 years ago, I was intrigued with Breitling’s first in house movement while she liked the mesh bracelet which has become quite in fashion lately. I didn’t buy the watch in Greece, waited to return home to Toronto before finding one at a fair price.

Thanks for the input and ideas, everyone. The Omega AT WTs definitely seem a representatively popular choice. For me, I like them fine, but I've always liked the clean look of the 3-handed ATs more, so the WTs are probably not for me.

I really want to pull the trigger on one of the Farers, but I think I am going to hold out until next weekend's District Time Watch Show. If I don't see a WT there that captures my fancy, I may have to pull the trigger on a Farer.
