Downsizing (Spring Cleaning)

How often do you downsize your watch collection?

For me, I've been a bit of a minimalist since about 2018. For me, watches are no different. I've only been in the hobby a few years, and have acquired and tried out quite a few watches so far. However, I find that I'm wearing the same ones from day to day, and as such, have downsized every few months. I think that I'll be going down to about 5 fairly soon, as the ones that I wear often. I generally give watches away to friends, or sell online. The ones in the photo on this post are (mostly) going to be given to friends in this batch of downsizing.

I know for some folks, it is sacrilege to get rid of watches. That being said, what's your take on it? Ever go through and do some Marie Kondo "does this spark joy?" for your collection?

I’m always trying to downsize!

Recently gifted my Yema Navygraf Heritage to my girlfriend and my Mido Oceanstar Captain to my oldest friend. Three watches remain and I plan to keep it that way :-)

I haven’t, but I should :)

Never downsized. But, I may give away a couple of my Pagani Design homages because I’ve decided to upgrade those to Steinharts.

I try to stay below 5 and take one out if my tastes change and I want to add a new piece in the collection. Oftentimes it's not that I don't like the watch anymore, but I try to avoid hoarding and having too much money sleeping in a drawer that could be instead used to fund new watches.

I have given away many watches over the years. Recently this year I have given several to @TheMadVlad and his bud EJ. I currently sit at 4 regular pieces; my Redwood Tactical Diver V3, Heimdallr Monster, Islander ISL101, and fully modded Casio Royale. Plus 2 retired sentimental pieces, dad’s Timex Expedition and grandpa’s pocketwatch.

Other than that I have my upgraded Orient Mako 2 that I’m selling to a friend, and they know who they are.

Long way of saying I have 4 watches, but could easily go down to 2 and be completely content.

Can absolutely relate, always thinking about which ones need to go next (in favour of new acquisitions).

I want to wear all of mine and do not like them to sit in the drawer.

P.s.: nice move to give them away to friends!

You have nighty fine pieces at that too

I want to downsize, seeking about 4 watches. But never done so and not sure where’s the best way. 1-2 watches are probably unsellable.

I am always trying to downsize and failing miserably. It’s like “Oh look another dial I don’t have” Its an endless rabbit hole!
