New Longines

I have tried a couple of Longines today, and here are my thoughts.

First of all, I came to see a couple of watches I liked on the internet but left the store with a completely different opinion on those watches.

  1. First of all Longines Conquest is the biggest mehh. I thought it was their step forward, their answer to some Tudors with better price, but no. For this kind of watch, I think it should be a bit smaller, it has a big lug-to-lug distance, and it is sportier than it should be.

  2. Longines Spirit Zulu Time 39. This should be their best watch in 2023, but somehow it is not for me. 39mm size of the watch is the perfect size for a watch, but due to its Arabic numerals, bezel, different colours, hands, writings and applications, it is kind of too busy for me. So maybe, just maybe this watch is better with a larger case, so all of these applications can breathe a bit. Whether I like it or not, this is a fantastic watch, and as a Longines fanboy, I am very happy to see all the hype around this watch.

  3. Longines sector heritage. I generally disliked this watch, but when I saw it in person, I took back everything I said. Incredible charm, incredible hands, perfect sizing. I even liked the strap although it may not be the best option for it. Must see.

  4. Longines Majetek. Boy oh boy what a watch. You may think it is a simple watch, but that case, that perfect leather strap, small second, that engraved year on the side... It is 43mm, and maybe it is on a bigger side, maybe it is not for every wrist, but trust me, when you see it in person, you are forgetting all the specs, numbers and BS. Incredible, incredible watch. I didn't want one more leather strap watch, I wanted to buy some kind of steel bracelet everyday watch, but my heart said no, we need this.

Love that Sector dial, & the Majetek is a grail for me. Gorgeous.

Funnily enough I feel the same as you about the other two 👍🏻

·

I really wanted to like the Majetek, but the dial just feels ‘cramped-in’ by the bezel and crystal - too much bezel, not enough dial.

I think the (sadly, now discontinued) Bulova did this style better

In my opinion it is fantastic, it is different, it has so much character, it says " i don' t give fu×k about your girly bracelets, blinky bezzels, about you apllied markers, and your chronometers, chronographs, I am so imperfect and i don't give a fu×k, so take me or f yourself". 😂

·

That Zulu is sublime...

·

The sector dial is the winner for me and IMO seems to fit your style the best.

And I agree on your take on the Zulu Time. I got the 42mm before the 39 was announed, and when it was I thought crap! I should have waited. But seeing the 39 in person, I realized the 42 it a better fit for the design.

·

Amazing 🥰

·

i really like the sector heritage looks, its soo classy

·

Zulu time for me. In blue. On the strap. Or bracelet. Or strap. Or…….

·

The beads of rice bracelet for the heritage sector is pretty good

·

Pretty much what I would expect to think of the new conquest. The black Sector dial is fantastic, especially on the bracelet.

·

Selling my Longines Hydroconquest 41 box and papers (1295 msrp) for 500+ shipping if anyone is interested

·

Ummm, yes to all 😉

Thanks for the insight. Did you happen to try a Spirit 37?

·

I agree with the conquest for sure, and while I don't agree with your take on the spirit, I don't disagree either (if that makes sense) what I will say about the spirit is that the Longines Spirit Zulu X Hodinkee collaboration took ALOT of jabs. I saw a lot of comments on the price, a lot of comments on Swatch Groups overall (we'll call it) collaborative spirit but mostly a lot of BB pro comments, (rightfully so). but here's the thing, I felt they addressed alot of your comments on the regular version. They removed the stars, which in theory declutters the dail alot and the price increase is comporable to that of the regular to the titanium big eye.

That said, I love my 39mm spirit and my only complaint is the lack of micro adjustments, considering they added it to the hydroconquest GMT

·

I Really like the Majetek, but my heart says Zulu time. Since thenday I saw the green & gold colour, I fell in love with it. I'm saving money for a next watch, probably this one is in my top 3 most wanted.

·

Honestly the Zulu Time looks amazing

·

I found the 39mm Zulu lacked wrist presence while the 42mm was too large for my wrist. I preferred The Hydro GMT in the flesh

After i calm down a bit, I can say you are right 100% . I prefer Majetek, but i am 90% ofmy time in shirts, suits, blazers, so i think that Majetek would be unused potential, while Sector would be on my wrist all the time.

There you go.

I was thinking sartorial choices, sure, but also, judging by your wrists and hands, you seem to be on the slender side, one more reason to prefer something less chunky let's say.

It's funny how a 40.5 or 41 mm would have been so perfectly proportioned God Himself would probably be wearing one

·

Thank you for your amazing reviews. I hope you get the Majetek soon.

·

Having tried the Sector myself it is very charming in person, wonderful watch.

It is more bulkier than your Panerai???

Felt like it on the wrist 🤷🏼‍♂️

It is not a small watch that's for sure.

It is crazy how times are changing... we wore 45mm watches like it is nothing and now I feel that those are more wall clocks than wrist watches... 😂

Well it is a matter of fashion,

But I love my Panerai at 44, it’s so well engineered, I feel it would sit well even on smaller wrists, since it’s supposed to be worn big.

For a dress watch I have my 38 Max bill, that sits even more compact for its size due to those small lugs.

My Oris Aquis is 43,5, and feels smaller fit to a short lug to lug as well, perfect as a summer diver/ vacation watch

I Think that Panerai is fantastic. And I have king samurai which is 43.8, and also have 39mm Alpinist and 35mm Cortebert. An they serve their purpose.

So in that sense, i wanted to say that this Majetek is on a bigger side, but somehow it seems right for its style and purpose.
