Where is the moonswatch crazyness gone ?

Is it just me, but it seems that 9 days after a release that put the watch internet on fire and had people sleeping rough in front of Swatch boutiques, hype already disappeared.

Talk about a flash in the pan !

first people excited to own an affordable omega and then after many review come out (paint fell of, plastic case) people think twice and then dont want to buy them (me included)😂

·

I think for most (perhaps myself included), it would have been a fun thing to have but certainly not something to queue up for hours for, or pay a premium for. For me, unfortunately I feel negatively towards it as a watch now and wouldn’t want one. I don’t feel it’s done a lot positively for either brand now - a real shame but as I think Max said in his video, Swatch Group were probably also taken by surprise.

·

I hope it is gone so when it goes online it’s not another disaster haha

·

I think many are just waiting for it to be released again. Why get all wound up when isn't a limited release?

I suspect when they go online people will be sharing pictures and talking about them more. I know I plan to have at least one in my collection.

·

Yeah I’d say if they only had a few hundred per country and its gonna take a long time to get more then the hype will dissipate, I’ll get one when they’re in stock but I’m not rushing to pay extra from scalpers

·

Can’t win - its either over-hyped or a flash in the pan! They haven’t got the product back in the stores yet have they (or online)? Let’s not be so quick to judge after just over a week of release….

·

It’s fine… we can go back to all the topics we were talking about before, like what is everyone‘s spirit Invicta model, why Cartier is a borderline fashion brand for the ladies, and recommending people watches with no real criteria to go off. I’ll go first… I want a mechanical that’s greater than 40mm for my 5.5” wrist and I have £5 and this packet of crisps - should I trade for a GS because my Rolex AD wants a Crunchie bar instead?

·

So much hate from lots of quarters regarding the wrist patina. I think it's actually kind of cool. You're sort of wearing it even when you take it off. And fellow connoisseurs will see it and get it. Those who know, know, kind of thing. If a certain brand that has a crown logo invented wrist patina collectors would be going crazy for it.

And anyway, if for some reason you don't dig the wrist patina just wear the watch with the plastic protector on. It's no big deal.

Haters gonna hate.

It's a Swatch though.

·

Yes, it's important not to generalise from an unknown sample...None us knows whether or not the excitement has gone out of the Moonswatch. We have to wait and see.

Technically so is an Omega - both owned by Swatch Group.

so… I’ll get my coat.

So an Omega is a cheap Lange? And a Swatch is a cheap Lange?

·

like any good soup,  just add stock

No because Richemont own Lange. Swatch Group own Omega, Longines, Swatch, etc…

Yeah I knew somebody owned Lange. Swap out Lange for whatever posh brand Swatch owns.

·

I think they look fantastic, as soon as I can I am going for either the Mission To Mars or the Neptune.

·

It's not limited - so no urgency

·

Might have something to do with the stock? Have they re-stocked it?

I personally think Omega/Swatch should have out them online on Friday so they stole the show before and after Watches & Wonder. I still plan on getting one later this year.

·

I think a good comparison is an iPhone release. Again, not limited - just limited by supply but eventually you and anyone who wants one cane get it if your patient. I like to imagine the folks lining up are just the super pumped enthusiasts (or flippers)... which is cool. Life is short and it’s awesome a release can get people excited to line up with watch fiends.

·

Just the calm before the next release of units is my guess.

·

Moon what!? MoonPlastic? No idea what you are talking about... 🤔

·

I'm just happy that the hype seems to be over 😁

·

Probably the hype will return as soon as they can be purchased... today I went to the only boutique that sold them and they believe that in 3 weeks more watches will be for sale... got my eyes on a Mission to Pluto... maybe we should make a Moonswatch day... instead of tuesday on a friday, bet there would be more posts...

·

I got a Swatch chrono on Jomashop for $68.00 recently and it came with a good strap not velcro crap. The Omega paint on a Swatch means nothing to me.

·

I'm buying 4 when they become available online!  Still super excited.  Just waiting for them to become available!

·

I'd rather have a Moonswatch vs a " smartwatch"

·

I'm definitely going to pick one up though when they go up on the site..

That paroxysm on launch day couldn't last, and the post mortem afterwards. There's only so much to say, and it was tired by day 2. But I don't know that the hype gone; it may have just gone below the radar (though I suppose hype also involves everyone harping on the hyped thing ad nauseum). I read a report from someone who tried his luck at a Swatch shop a week later. There were other people doing the same, and some had been there day after day. The shop couldn't say couldn't say when the next shipment would come, so he gave up. I have no idea how many people are still trying; the ones who do probably don't post about it.

Remember the launch of the CasiOak? Actually, I don't, I wasn't paying attention. But they were hard to get and trading above retail for a year or two after launch, so the hype was there even though it wasn't front and center on social media all the time. How long will it take before there are enough MoonSwatches in the pipeline so that they're readily available in store or online? I think that's the point when you say the hype is over.

·

Resale prices on ebay now averaging around $800 so people are still paying over retail by around 3X.  Hype still there just not totally insane.

·

Apparently it didn’t “rub” off on everyone (pun intended)
