Honestly, I have had a few and still have the Lake Suwa but they are priced where they should be, if not overpriced now. The spring drive is amazing and I would recommend that if going with GS. Their case designs are average (1/2 their catalog is horrible), bracelet has no 1/2 links and usually doesn’t fit perfect, the dial is great but then only up close so you’ll be enjoying those fine details alone in the right lighting. If you are in the sub-$5k I would also consider a used JLC, Nomos, Tudor, or Omega. Not to deter you from GS, I do enjoy mine, but they aren’t the underdog that some make them out to be.
AP if you value case finishings as high as the movement.
A lange if you value the movement finishings more than the case (except Zeitwerk, that minute repeater is awesome)
Patek if you want to settle for less popular model but the top notch in movements (unless you are looking at non-sports models or want to spend $150k+)
VC if you value an underdog and appreciate the history of the brand.
I personally would be torn between an AP and an A Lange but really like that AP hasn’t sold out yet which VC and A Lange are both owned by the corps.
