Grrrrrr, flippers

Come on, Flippers on microbrands takes the Micky. Saw this on eBay this morning, anywhere between 20-40% markup and not even with a bracelet. Kudos to @Clemence_Watches for getting the level of hype. Tried one on at the British Watchmakers day and it’s an amazing watch and one I’m getting on restock so loving the hype train, but it really cheeses me off that those who really want a watch didn’t get the opportunity. Seller says open to offers, feel like offering retail just to be an arse.

Anyway rant over, I will bide my time, wait for restock and give my money to Tom and not some flipper.

Flipper Avenue, right on the corner of Delusional Drive and Grandeur d'Vision Blvd.

Yup, scourge of the hobby.

These low lives spoil it for the rest of us!! 🤬

·

If you really want to be an arse offer him a trade. 😉

·

Do offer retail! That should be the norm. They do not deserve humane treatment.

·

I can’t stand microbrand flippers. Buying Loriers so they sell out in minutes then selling online for $200 over.

Whenever I sell my watches I offer a good deal. I’m sure it’s the same with luxury too.

·

As others said on the offer

Wouldn’t want them to get the benefit of my money. I’m in no rush, will wait for restock and buy from the owner of the business deserving of my money

That’s sad I got my Munro in amber on Monday and I love it, couldn’t imagine selling it!

For retail, Clemence already's got their money, and the flipper gets no profit. I doubt he'll take you up on it, though.

Flipping micro brands? Hum. 😮

·

Humans being human?

What a shocker…

·

Well if it sells then someone who really really wanted it has got it so everyone is happy

·

I have a hard time with this also and would prefer to support the brands directly. I wish more watch companies would resell returned goods and press models for a discount and compete with these flippers.

Shock? No. Disheartening? Def. Worth posting about? 🤷🏾‍♂️

I suppose discussing it might make some newbies think next time they buy. Maybe.

Ebay takes 15% fees on watches so if you see someone selling a new watch at a 20 percent markup they are probably just looking to break even...not so much a flipper. Offer them 5 or 10 percent less you'll probably get a deal that actually works out for both of you.

Higher markups...well, they are probably a flipper.

I’m not trying to be a d**k, but this happens on all limited and new releases, has done for years. The speculation on the Fifty Phantoms was hilarious, especially when the blue apology edition was announced and all the £2000 prospective auctions suddenly dropped to £500-600. If someone wants, someone buys, it’s supply and demand.

I’ve done it before for vinyl records (when I used to do that sort of thing) - I dropped £35 on a rare happy hardcore record to flip for £70, and I’ve bought entire collections for a slight premium to glean the diamonds and recoup the majority of the costs for the rest. It’s speculation and desire. I have paid slightly over for something to have it there and then, if that’s what I want.

If you really want it, you can have it. I paid a fair amount for my Maharishi 1950s Bubbleback, it wasn’t worth that, but it is worth it to me.

Nah, not being a dick at all, just pointing out personal perspective. You’re right, it is society at work, not gonna not happen.

Maybe not every flipper out there is just out to scheme and con the best out of humanity, maybe some are just trying to make hay while the sun is shining?

Speculation is one thing, but I’ve bought watches and flipped, although in my defence I’ve not made a profit. I’ve given more away than I’ve sold. Unwanted gifts, poor choices… Sometimes it doesn’t gel. I have a lot like that, I need to move them on.

I like to ask them for a bunch of weird photo angles and questions, then eventually offer them slightly below retail. 😜
