I preordered it! Erebus Ascent Blue Enamel

I've always had my eye on a blue dial automatic watch for my collection, and this one fits the bill perfectly! It'll be my first microbrand and I’m loving the brand logo design. It checks off all the boxes for me.

It was difficult to choose one but I managed to do it. It is my first GADA so I logically narrow down the dial I want based on that. I already have black dress and sport watch already. Helix and sunburst was either leaning more toward more dressy or sporty so all that left was the classic enamel color, which I think is the middle ground to being either a dress or sport depend how your wear or dress the watch. I wanted a lil pop to have that extra sporty-ness so I chose blue over white. The other ones was a bit of a funky watch dial so that was excluded right away.

The blue enamel dial, featuring the date at 6 o'clock, is exactly what I wanted. Plus, the oyster bracelet it comes with adds to its versatility as a go-anywhere, do-anything (GADA) watch without the need for extra straps. With oyster bracelet, it is weighted 130g…10g less on jubilee. With a 10 bar case size of 39mm, 45mm lug to lug, and 20mm lug width, it's just the right size in every aspect – not too big or too small.

I like the screw-down crown, AR sapphire crystal, quick release bracelet, built-in quick adjustable clasp, and appreciate the attention to detail on the different finishing on the case. The thin 11mm case is sleek, although a see-through case back would have been nice, but I understand it would've added thickness most likely. I am thinking it would be closer to a 10/10.5mm if not including the dome thickness increased effect of the double dome sapphire crystal. The solid case back with the brand's engraving is a nice touch.

The Miyota 9015 movement promises reliability and accuracy, and the lume is impressive and matches the blue dial perfectly. It's an affordable alternative to Grand Seiko or Omega Aqua Terra that does not break the bank.

I think this watch is a fantastic looking watch for the money. Part of me wonders how on earth there's any real money to be made in selling it at this price? My only wonder is how it will feel on the wrist? I don't see any reference to how much the watch on the bracelet weighs. I'd hate to receive one & it feel lightweight.

On oyster bracelet, 130g vs 120g on jubilee

That's pretty decent, in fact it's damn near perfect. I'm sure they'll sell them by the truck load.

Yes, nice looking watch, for me its the enamel dials and jubilee bracelet that look the best, maybe the black helix dial. The hands look GS the markers Omega AT and the case CW light catcher, whats not to like ?

·

I’m having a hard time deciding what dial I like best. I can rule out the white (very bland), the black (classier than the white but still bland), aventurine (I’ve already got such a dial), malachite (totally inappropriate for this watch).

That leaves me with EIGHT choices with a slight tendency towards the blue enamel, the blue helix or the orange fume. Now what? 😢

Beautiful watch. Really looks more expensive than it is. Certainly a step up from the origin. On thing I can't wrap my head around is that he choose to have lume at the back end of the seconds hand. Why?

He did explain the lumed second hand in his video. Essentially it was a compromise. He wanted a lumed second hand but didn’t want a bulbous tip to the second hand spoiling the lines. So he lumed the counterbalance as a compromise - that way you can still time seconds in the dark albeit with a little mental agility.

Not ideal but not awful.

jody himself says 130g on the oyster, 120g on the jubilee

Pics when you get it!

Forgive me, but what is the appeal of Erebus?

I like Jody Musgrave and his Channel, but what does Erebus offer the consumer?

·

Reckon I'd have specced it that exact same way, although I'd have remostrated with myself for days with all the alternative options.

Those flat, high gloss dials look so classy and the case suits an oyster so well. Great choice!

·

I ordered the purple helix. Can't wait to get it on wrist! The blue enamel looks incredible as well, you definitely picked a good one!!

·

Congratulations. I saw the video yesterday and I'm seriously considering it!

·

these look awesome!! None of the color options really speak to me personally (I wish they had a solid blue fume option), but they seem to be a fantastic value-for-money watch. Kudos to Jody

·

I'm amazed to see an enamel dial on a sub-$1000 watch.

In my point of view, microbrands they offer a good value watch for the price points. I think it’s tough to find the same quality on brand name watch for the same price.

I’m looking to build my own watch and it’s a lot of work just to find available parts that fit to a design aspect requirement. And tougher to find one with good quality. So now I have a much more appreciation for microbrands and the watches they offer.

Also microbrand, in my views some of them have really unique dials and styles of watches that’s slightly different from brand name. It’s like supporting individual artists that you like.

For the watch price point I’m not really looking for excellent customer service. As long they support the usual like some kind of limited warranty and have a return policy, then I’m good with it.

I agree with you. My answer was really just a reaction to what gaijin wrote.

Gotcha :)

·

The enamel and aventurine versions are the ones I like the most.

·

Do it! :) if anything you can always resell to someone who want the preorder price when the price is at MSRP.

Have you watched the video on his channel? I think they have knocked it out of the park it looks amazing for the money n before you say anything I'm no fan boy but in terms of bang for buck with enamel and malachite dials etc along with sapphire and high beat movement you will struggle to find anything near as good at the price point they look awesome with enough variety to suit any taste

I will not argue with that.

I just, well, find a number of similar ⌚ in the market.

Price may be his distinction, but perhaps my burnout for microbrands is too strong.

Can't decide between the enamel and the helix

Can't decide between the enamel and the helix

It’s all depends what purpose you want it for and how versatile you want it to be so that would the factor to decide the dial. Also look at what you have as well whether you want to replace a watch or another watch that’s slightly different somehow. Helix is a unique dial design, imo leaning more dressy side and I would go for a J style with it and o style would dress it down a bit. Go for Enamel for the simplicity if that suits your style more and it can be anything you want it to be.

Yeah my thoughts for sure. Both are gorgeous. And I could see myself getting any of the configurations

Good luck man! lol you either go with logic such as versatility/ color you don’t have, or go with with your gut.

I really like the black one too, can’t go wrong with the classic black
