Watches £1000-£1500

Mrs Munky has surprised and delighted me by offering to buy me a watch c £1000-£1500. This would be a considerable move upmarket, for me. I know that this would not buy a piece of top end horology but I would be really happy with something in this range.

I would really welcome any suggestions for items I should be looking at.  I have vaguely thought about Sinn, Oris, Doxa Tag, Longine and others.

What I want is a quartz watch and a simple one. It would be worn with casual clothes. Ideally I would like a three hander with no day/date complication or other complications. For me, simplicity is genius.

In an ideal world it would have a yellow face but this is not a deal breaker...probably. I don't really want another watch that is close to looking like a Rolex Submariner. I prefer coloured watch faces to black and/or white ones.

Disclaimer. I know that, in the end, I have to choose what I want. I would still like some opinions, suggestions, recommendations etc. With many thanks and best wishes.

I guess the funny thing here is that there's simply no need to spend that much for a simple quartz watch.

Also, there's this.

You are right, of course. I have quartz watches that cost below £500 and others under £200. There is no particular reason why a considerably more expensive quartz watch is going to make a big difference to me. Generous as my wife is, I am going to rethink this...thanks again.

If your hell bent on quartz then i would meet Mrs Munky halfway and get an entry level Grand Seiko. Failing that the Doxa 200 Sub in Yellow would be a great buy and spend the rest on a weekend away.

·

Slightly more but you could get a Grand Seiko Heritage 9F quartz for below £2k if you look around!

Agree on Doxa Sub200 if okay with mechanical for a yellow dial. For quartz, I'd take a look at the Casio Oceanus range. Last, if you're okay with stretching, a Grand Seiko or Citizen Chronomaster both look great! (surprisingly, I prefer the Citizen. Solar with a very cool washi paper dial!)

It's a little light for a Grand Seiko Quartz (new at least) but I might take a look at the Citizen Chronomasters.  I  don't know if they have a time only but they are absolutely stunning eco-drives.

Not time onlies, but might pique some interest.

Titanium, 37mm, on chrono24 for $1400ish

Citizen CTQ57-1025/A660-T013317 pre-owned

Titanium 38mm, washi dial on chrono for $1800

The washi dial below requires some closeups, because it's one of the more breathtaking dials I've encountered.  If you want the citizen snowflake, that might be it.

Hah, just saw your comment.  You nailed it.  Consider mine an addendum with photos!

Also wanted to add, the junghans max bill solar if you're into the bauhaus thing.

With a bit of patience and another £200-300 to the top of your budget you could pick up a used SBGV243. Maybe not simple enough design though.

If yellow not essential plenty of other GS 9F which some of the best quartz watches.

Sinn do some mad overbuilt quartz watches, like the UX (EZM 2B). Probably not what you are looking for!

Maybe a pre-owned Omega Aqua Terra quartz.

The Tag Heuer blue Formula 1 quartz is quite beautiful and very eye-catching.  I have the chrono version and the blue is quite spectacular.  You'd have to put up with a date window though. 😄

Thanks for these suggestions, guys, I appreciate them. This evening, following up those suggestions, I came across the Longines Conquest VHP which looks a good one. Not yellow, but I guess that blue is close enough.

I do like the yellow Doxa too.

Not quartz, but the Alexander Shorokoff watches are very well finished for their price. They are automatics. This one is about 1500

You may want to consider looking at the Japan domestic market watches. They have some great looking Citizens, Seiko's and Casio's that are only sold there. For instance, I picked up a Casio Oceanus T300 not too long ago and I think it's fantastic. Took 11 days to get from Japan to my door in Atlanta, GA.

I have your watch right here, the only thing it isn't a quartz, but these limited release Sinn's are regulated, I know, I have the blue one and it runs at +2 seconds a week and when I asked the AD they informed me that Sinn regulates them in house.

$1990 AUD on a strap, the bracelet is another $400 odd dollars more. This should, in pounds be well within your budget.

Sadly, this short-run production number has sold out. 😮
