What should I buy in August, to get my watch fix?

Here's my commentary on my thinking behind each option... https://www.watchcrunch.com/Mr.Dee.Bater/posts/what-should-i-buy-in-august-to-get-my-watch-fix-aka-do-i-really-drink-too-much-46448

I just got one of those Seesterns, and it's quite nice. I'm enjoying it more than expected, and more than any Pagani I've ever had.

Wow! That's awesome! Thank you for the feedback!

If you're looking at the PD1733 you may want to check out the Benyar BY-5176M for ⅓ of the price. It has a different movement but mine is keeping excellent time.

·

Selfishly, I voted for the Pagani just to read your review of the $100 homage and how we're all suckers for brand names because realistically a $100 knockoff is already 80% of the real thing.

Ha! I have like 5 of these kinds of random reviews floating around in my head. They're the kind of posts / reviews that are likely to offend quite a few folks, resulting in heated exchanges, which would then get the thread nuked! I've held off on this kind of commenting in the past, 'cause didn't want to get someone else's post nuked.

But, yeah, I do think a $100 knockoff is already > 80% of the real thing!

The Seestern, this watch will go down as the “Game Changer” in Chinese homage watches. The watch that allows an across the board a future mark up of 35% on all Chinese homages, remember the Chinese produce the chemicals for Fentanyl and like this SeaQ homage they want to just hook you in knowing you’ll pay in the future. Great value today though.

Do you own one? How does it compare to other brands you've owned???

·

I own Omega, Breitling Rolex et al and this Seestern is scary good. For 1/5th of the cost to get my big boys just serviced? The genuine is obviously more desirable but that question “Is it worth it?” Yes but now we have options. Good luck.

That makes sense, even though, some day, your spouse and kids will appreciate a stock portfolio better than a bunch of mechanical watches ticking away in a sock drawer😉

Yes, agreed 100%.

I guess what I'm trying to say without being too direct about it is that my kids will inherit, and do today, enjoy the fruits of a very large stock portfolio, along with the fruits of other financial assets. Me spending a few hundred here and there has ~0.00002% impact upon our current base, much less what the kids'll inherit one day down the road, after a bunch more compounding over time!

It just blows me away how advanced and efficient modern manufacturing techniques are that we can get a watch like this for that price! It truly is a testament to the power of human ingenuity!

I saw this video once, and couldn't stop thinking about how much we take EVERYTHING about our modern lives for granted...

With little QC and chain making them, as well as getting rid of that darned middleman significantly lowers the price, I'm even certain they make quite a profit on them too

·
benandwatch

i mean what do you really want 😂😂

Honestly, just to have some light-hearted fun. I think for us collectors, it's fun to constantly research and try new stuff. And, if there's a way for us to create some sort of system, some constraints, then it enables us to prolong the fun of the search and the research. I mean, I guess I could just buy everything all today. But, what would be the fun in that? It would be like going to Safeway, buying a half gallon of ice cream and shoveling it all in my mouth in one sitting.

Somehow, spreading out the consumption of things you like over time creates a great deal more enjoyment!

Yes!!!

Agreed 100%!

I'm convinced that 90% of what we pay for in almost all modern manufactured goods is brand. I was thinking about doing a post on that, but figured it might be too contentious for WatchCrunch and would probably get the thread nuked! Ha!

I think at least par of it is true, because as someone that works in a field where everything is expensive, I can definitely say that the for exact same part, the one that has "Motorsport" In front of it will always cost more than the OE part, even though only the packaging is different.

LKQ, right?

·
Mr.Dee.Bater

LKQ, right?

Well, for example, ignition coils for a VQ56, they're cheaper when you get them from Nissan than when you get them from Oreca. But when you receive them they're in a Nissan OE package anyway.

Why not a little Solar Quartz in yor life? You wear it and love it for a while THEN auction it. I know ah guy 😏

😀

I have a San Martin Longines Homage I'll trade for a couple straps if you're interested

This is why my Moonwatch is a Phylida rather than an Omega.
