I'm doing it... but the Baby Alpinist or the Happy Feet?

Guys, guys, guys...  Seiko is soooooooooo amazing!  And they keep releasing such jaw-droppingly good watches at such fantastic prices!  I keep worrying that if I don't limit myself, I'm going to end up like the crazy cat lady with 200 of these things.

I genuinely can't decide between the SPB155 "Baby Alpinist" or the SRPG57 "Happy Feet" Monster.

  • Baby Alpinist strikes me as an awesome GADA watch.  It's got WR, great lume, amazing green granular dial with fume effect, and 38mm diameter so will be super comfy, and 70 hour power-reserve!
  • "Happy Feet" Monster is a monster!  Crazy cool, unique look for a diver, thick enough to use as a set of brass knuckles in a 3am drunken fist fight in the parking lot outside the corner 7-Eleven, and who doesn't love the little penguin foot prints in the snow???

Which one would you get, if you were in my shoes?

I'm probably not one to ask, because I'm quickly becoming the crazy 200 Seiko guy myself. However, I personally would pick the Alpinist. But they're so different, you really need to just get both, right?

·

Dude! Alpinist all the way no brainer! It's design is so timeless unlike the monster which just screams early to mid 2000s (shudder). Thats just me though I don't gel with the whole monster style. Although you got the wrong title. The real title of this post is "which one should I buy FIRST?"

This should be WatchCrunch's logo:

I was thinking the same thing.

·

Baby Alpinist would be my pick but only because it maybe my next purchase

·

I have them both. They wear so different. The dial of the Pinguin is unique, but the watch wears a bit top heavy, especially on a NATO.

The Alpinist is more the dress watch. It hugs your wtist. But I'm more carefull with this one to scratch it.

Both are great and it depends on when you want to wear the watch

·

Alpinist.  there are better looking monsters.

Green dial for you too?   Or the matcha brown?

Well, I figure that I'll wear the Alpinist when I'm out at dinner, or desk diving, or drinking in the afternoon.

I think I'd reserve the monster for when I'm doing battle against kaiju, or when I'm in a drunken fist fight in the parking lot outside the 7-Eleven around the corner.

Wha???   What are some other cool monsters?  I'm a monster virgin!   I don't even know what  I don't know about monsters.

·

Baby Alpinist

·

Crazy cat to crazy cat 🙀 - I think? I’d go for the monster. You are waaaay beyond the need for a GADA. Besides, what will you do when the 🦖 come?? 😼

·
Bobofet

Baby Alpinist

You don't like drunken fist fights in the parking lot?

·

Let’s face it, the question is not whitch one you get, but what do i buy first.

Alpinist first if you ask me.

For me the Happy Feet, its an easy decision as I have an Alpinist ! But if I had to choose one or the other I like the Happy.

There are anlot of monsters in the room

I'd go with the Baby Alpinist, if I wasn't already scarred by Seiko...

I'm not sure I'd go green though, I think the blue is nicer, and more versatile.

You were scarred by Seiko?  What happened?

·
GoingTopShelf

I’ll cast my vote.

Gorgeous!  What strap is that???

I don't have @Omeganut money. I am one of those guys to spends $20.00 on an old watch, $100.00 to fix it up, and then endlessly complains that it is always in the shop. I am fascinated by King Seiko and Lord Seiko as brilliant mistakes.

Wasn't Lord Seiko a Sith Lord during the Old Republic?

Ha!  So, you would always choose the one you don't have?

·

Green dial....

Yeah, the brown dial seemed a bit underwhelming to me.  Somehow the whole fume effect with the green really caught my eye!

·
Mr.Dee.Bater

Gorgeous!  What strap is that???

The Watch Steward parachute elastic. The rubber strap this watch comes with is awful.

·
Mr.Dee.Bater

Wow!  The Arita porcelain dial!  I didn't even know these existed!!!

Yes, after I bought it, I almost didn’t want to gift it. The dial is beautiful and I think the work of a single craftsman. This is another Seiko that’s knocking on the GS door.

You know, there are a number of Seikos where if you stripped them entirely of the branding, I would have no idea which one is the Seiko and the Grand Seiko.  For example, the SARX055 "Baby Snowflake" looks as nicely finished in titanium as any titanium GS.  The only difference, that I can see, is that the SRX055 has the 6R15 movement, while the GS equivalents have Spring Drive.

I was thinking the same thing.

Everything after 1990 looks the same to me.

·

I like the green one because of the hour hand and the simply style
