Watch DIY projects anyone?

I decided to destroy this fake panerai in the most constructive way possible by taking it apart and making it into an epoxy accent table.

No, nothing recent. I still have a Tokeilabs grey watch dial (NH35) with in the typical dot-style diver pattern with Japanese lettering that I am deciding what project to use for.

Well now I want to buy a fake Sub and do this same thing.

Hi Max, just wondering how that dyi Panorai table would look like with a dome top!

I.e, like over filling the pan with epoxy just to the point of overflowing??? ok, wait.... not an easy task, I'm being over presumptuous! lol

Fun idea, but keep in mind the epoxy is quite heavy, filling it to the top would make the table super top-heavy and probably not very safe 😉

over looking things in and out of context, can and will be a detriment for matters of safety! lolol

Loved this one! I would’ve personally rather  framed the parts and put the whole thing on a wall in the living room

That would've been a less sticky affair 😉

For sure! 😄

I don’t know much about epoxy resins, but is it possible to polish the wobbly surface?

Definitely, I'm kinda digging the wavy surface though. Maybe I've been drinking the Grand Seiko coolaid too long 🤣

Just watched this on YouTube, lovely project!

What an awesome idea, Max. The table looks really great. If you go in serial production I would be your first customer :)

I made 6 or 7 years ago a day course at a local watchmaker where we disassembled a movement (China 6498) and assembled afterwards a whole watch including oiling, casing and regulating. 2 month my AD invited a few customers for a watchmaking class, disassembling and assembling an ETA 6498. It's amazing to see when the balance wheel starts moving.

After the first course I bought an old Junghans at a flea market and “played” a bit with it, now it's decoration at my watch collection. After your video I am thinking of what to do with it^^

Man, that's a slick project idea. Turned out great. I couldn't bring myself to intentionally buy a fake for it but salvaging an accidental fake this way is brilliant. Maybe I'll get a cheaper, non-functioning authentic and do something similar.

Yes it's a great way to "get rid" of old parts, and show them off 😁👍

Like create a paper weight from epoxy with parts inside it - that would be cool.

Max this is epic! Now I'm trying to decide which watch do I disassemble to make into a table!! Actually thought about getting an old "for parts" watch off eBay maybe an old pocket watch even. Keep the great content coming!
