Panerai's got style but what they charge for an ETA movement, while calling it in-house, disgusts me. It's practically mocking the consumer.
What a great piece. I've been eyeing it versus the MC Calendar. And I keep leaning toward this one because, "Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away." Enjoy it and congrats on the anniversary!
The artistic and philosophical sides of timepieces resonate with and inspire me as well. I’ll just gaze at my Grand Seiko Minamo, with a dial brilliantly depicting a lake and the perfect sweep of a gold second hand. It has no staccato but smooth and constant flow just like time. Reminds me every moment is a treasure and not to waste however much I have left.
A Grand Seiko piece with Spring Drive may suit you. Smooth, perfectly quiet, no battery, minimal friction (low maintenance). Many options with or without date. And everything in dials from the subdued to the most artistic you can find. The power reserve indicator has been on the front until some additions in the past year, which are thinner and have more power reserve. Most automatic but the dateless ice blue "Omiwatari" below is a manual-wind. If you have only one watch, it's another fun interaction to wind it regularly.
The watch looks like the planet. I think that's all there is to it.
